Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIX

Maybe he is asking for support in finding a new job? "Asking for support..." can mean many things, unless Hubbs specifically said "support in staying".

Great point. The program is in a better place than 5 years ago. Maybe he's just looking for some help loading the Uhaul.

Seriously? THE LONGER THEY KEEP BUTCH, NO MATTER THE REASON, THE MORE THE RECRUITING CLASS WILL CONTINUE TO ERODE.

So Butch was notified after Georgia he wouldn’t be retained. The administration reaches out to Jon Gruden to determine interest, and finds he is interested. The contract terms are finalized, one being to allow Butch to conclude the season as head coach. Having his man in agreement, the administration announces one of the largest fund raisers in history to improve Neyland. Currie knows once the announcement is out donations will flow in like a flooded river.

The fans get their wish for a big named coach, the donation base is united and pulling in the same direction. The academic side is already counting their piece of the donation pie, recruiting will rise to the top of the college football world, the band plays Rocky Top and Currie looks like a genius. Go Vols!

I also got scolded for pointing out that Shell Capital was a joke last night.

If Beaver has more to say - be a man - say it.

Don’t post cryptic twitter cover pictures and then lurk all damn day on VN.

Even worse, don’t be a pawn in his self entertainment.

Maybe you should stop worrying about him and everyone else.

Hubbs said “I’m not sure it’s giving Butch any momentum, but yes he’s calling boosters...”

Not exactly a positive response for Butch by Hubbs
Could be Butch is presenting it as he hasn't be told he's fired, officially or not. Looking to put up the appearance that he's 'fighting for his job' and not quitting due to potential suitors watching things unfold. Once a snake oil salesman, always a snake oil salesman.

Or, he's just cray cray

We must always keep in mind...

This is the same media that vehemently denied the Grumors in 2012. 5 years later, they have all admitted we were closer than many think.

Why should we believe anything they say now? That and, good journalists ask good questions. I get it, they have been told to cool it, want access, and are 90% entertainment, but you have to at least ask about recruiting to a guy who has hung his hat on it for the past 5 years. It's obvious Knoxville media is a joke. If all of this comes to fruition, surely they would be considered the laughingstock of sports media (fitting, kinda like our AD).

This is just getting ridiculous. I think Currie needs to intervene and come out with something. I understand if he has been secretive and working a deal behind closed doors, but right now our program and AD appears to be fractured. There have been various reports regarding the boosters, AD, trustees, etc. It seems like an internal power struggle and that no one at Tennessee is on the same page. Plus with the Antone Davis and other attacks on Butch, the future of our program needs to be addressed. Whether that's with Butch or without.

With the stories that the boosters want Gruden, and now confirmed reports that Butch is calling around asking boosters for support, what kind of look does that give our university? It makes us look incompetent and that we have no idea what we are doing or what the future direction of our program will be. Our program is a hot, steaming pile of garbage. Someone please fix it!

Basically, butch is begging to be given 1 more year and blaming injuries and players yada yada yada smokescreen
He'll never get better players here than he has right now and his be all, end all RG hire didn't appear to do anything to help the injury situation. Butch is like a damn dog turd stuck deep inside my shoes' treads. I feel like I got most of him off, but I'm still digging at those last few bits with a stick.
