Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIV

Ive been thinking all along it would get very bleak. Have been saying it here. Noones listening. Like bleak to the point where everyone would be happy to be discussing ANY coach not just THE coach we want. Because then theres no pressure.

Then we get our man.

Mike Bobo.

I am not 92 but I think the Gruden deal is NOT a done deal... I think that there a LOT of pressure on Currie from the Boosters to make it happen.... I also think he is trying and Gruden keeps saying NO.... Thus he is stalling until he can try to work it out....

Hopefully he can make it happen.... BUT IT IS NOT A DONE DEAL and NO.. We DON NOT HAVE OUR WHITE WHALE ... not yet anyway

Sorry to interrupt but that is exactly what I think

Nail on head. He is first choice and trying but not done. Frost is second and guy high up on list is one you don't want to hear but they are high in a guy who I think would do well but hard for us to swallow. But the info I got from two places show we want him and trying. Maybe Currie just doesn't want the attention on a coaching search that comes when you actually have an opening but I can't stand watching Jomes coach this team and if Currie makes a bad hire, his clock starts. One other thing is he loses what little leverage he has negotiating once coach is fired. He can get away with that ill will if big hire is made.

So, one of my own small informational contributions to this conversation was input from the academic admin side (AA) that they had agreed on a number of concessions (from their perspective) to the football program. That was a major article, and it appeared to be cleared out of the way of the hire.

Within the last 24 hours we have seen some very specific rumors about Gruden's staff. Specifically, this morning we have a suggestion that he may have tapped Art Briles as OC.

I can think of nothing, literally nothing, that would be more likely to make the players in the AA lose their collective ish than allowing Art Briles to set foot on campus in an official capacity. It would be the kind of move that could easily throw a huge wrench into negotiations.

I'm not sure if the Briles rumor is true. I am interested that it has come out right at the time we expected to hear an announcement about Butch, but we haven't.

I've tried contacting my AA person, no response yet this morning. Not entirely unexpected with church going on. Will try again to find something out later.

IF the Briles rumor is true, then it's absolutely going to be a showdown between the $ and the AA. We will see who wins. I can tell you this though: if Gruden comes and Briles ends up being on staff, it will represent a huge power shift between football and academics, akin to the Romans burning Carthage and sowing the fields with salt.

Grude on!

I call absolute BS to this. The people who look in absolute HORROR at Petrino/Kiffin types would hire BRILES??!!

Not trying to be rude, but that's lunacy at best.

Let's say this is true and he takes the job. What kind of offense do you think he will run? Pro style or will he bring a spread, tempo type offense? He could be a home run, but I would rather have Chip Kelly, Scott Frost or Mike norvelle

I am holding out hope that something will be announced tomorrow. If that doesnt happen I am out of hope. Any trust worthy folks said he coaches at SMU besdides Jimmy?

And now there's this guy.

Who cares?

Its a thought.

He didnt claim to be an insider.

Its all speculation.

Gtfo if a new poster who had been lurking finally wants to join the fray bugs you.

1 post or 10,000...not a single one of us knows wtf is happening.

So I’m still in Lexington. UK fans actually feel sorry for us Tennessee fans. Not a single one has talked any crap about the win. It’s kinda weird and not what I expected

This is exactly what I was talking about.
Pity.
Pity from KENTUCKY FANS!

Add to that the running joke amongst the local rival fans in my area is that Tennessee is always one year away from being "back".

It's all just so damned sickening.

Jimmy's source is the AD. If Jimmy said it, it's because the AD wants people to know.

Just imagine Petrino leading the team out of the T.
He’s riding one of our new sponsors, a Harley Davidson.
He’s wearing a neck brace and has a majorette hanging onto him.
Unfortunately, Smokey swerves in front of his Harley and Petrino crashes into the Drum Major.
The cheerleaders and players all go down like bowling pins into a Big pileup on the 20 yard line.
Kesling yells out, “what a turn of events”.
We make the “play of the decade” on Sportscenter.

You are correct....BUT....we win Southern Miss and mizzu is a toss up, and suck it up with the L to vandy....he is here to end of the year.

Honestly, I don't care. Is what it is. All I care about is who we replace him with. And if he's still here for next season, we have a problem that most likely won't be fixed. Ever.

I still think there’s a sold chance he’s gone before the next game. I don’t think Currie wants to set a record for number of empty seats on Saturday.

Why not?

It's like that scene from Days of Thunder, he wants Butch to gonout and hit the pace car

Why? Cause he's set every other crap record, Currie wants him to be perfect

Grude on!

None of this will happen or is even remotely a possibility, he is untouchable as a coach

I think you're missing my point. I'm suggesting that IF Gruden asked for Briles as OC, it would ABSOLUTELY cause people to go insane inside the University.

I think I'd prefer Kelly because of his college experience but Gruden is top 3 for me.

Bring him on whatever the cost. The last thing we need is another bottom feeder coach from the bargin bin.

A damn good one, he has his own type offense that's all the guy does is studies plays!
