if the others can get by with the twirly girl over and over, surely i can get by with this post.
this is an excerpt of a study i did from a long time ago.
tell me what you think:
Depending on which Bible you read, there are two stories as to who actually killed Goliath. Both cannot be true. One is true, while the other is a lie.
1 Samuel 17:51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
NIV - 1 Samuel 17:51 David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine's sword and drew it from the scabbard. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword. When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran.
Here, both the Bible and the NIV tell us that David killed Goliath.
2 Samuel 21:19 And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
NIV - 2 Samuel 21:19 In another battle with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver's rod.
The KJB states that Elhanan was responsible for killing the brother of Goliath, while the NIV claims he actually killed Goliath.
1 Chron. 20:5 And there was war again with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, whose spear staff was like a weaver's beam.
NIV - 1 Chron. 20:5 In another battle with the Philistines, Elhanan son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver's rod.
Now the KJB gives the name of Goliaths brother, and the NIV agrees that this is who Elhanan killed.
So, who killed Goliath? Was it David or Elhanan? Even the NIV isnt sure what to believe.
I wouldn't trust the niv for studying anythingif the others can get by with the twirly girl over and over, surely i can get by with this post.
