Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIII

I think practically all signs point to Gruden coming to coach.

I think the Scarrabeans got'er done.

I think the AD is trying to squash any and all speculation because a) their own backside needs protecting & b) mega boomage when announced.

I think all the posters that say no Gruden are getting their info from the AD side, same as the media right now.

I think the Booster/Gruden side are leaking info to pressure the AD side into action, as well as to take away any story as to why this didn't work out.

I think recruits are trollin' Currie. They ain't going to Vandy! They're like us in that, they just wanna get this show on the road.

I think Butch is allowed to resign, save face, pats on the back, yada yada, while the fans roll their eyes and say, "Who's next?"

Amirite? Howmidoing?
Leave anything out?

Pretty simple

I hate to be that guy, but I'm going to be anyways. Jon Gruden's most recent college coaching experience came in 1989 as the tight ends coach at Pacific. He won a mere 54% of his games as an NFL head coach, not much better than Jeff Fisher's win percentage of 51%. He would also cost at least $7mil to get IMO. That leads me to this: what is the infatuation with Gruden?

Looks like they got you he cliff notes. However, you will definitely want to read the last 30 or so pages.

Ok I will fire through a few pages to get up to speed.

I already see a lot of folks interested in the beaver (not surprised there). Will take this one step at a time..while I watch a little of this BC game.

So, I originally replied to DocVol that I agreed. For those who haven't been following along, here's my thinking.

Hyams is a UT mouthpiece. What was posted by volstate that many of us disagreed with was almost line for line what has come out of Hyams mouth the last couple days. Ergo, the info volstate is passing, whether he believes it or not, is the AD's story.

Doc's question is why would the AD want the story to be "Gruden has never been in play." My short version answer is because Gruden is in play.

They better make a huge hire. I'm like preacher, they hire another up and comer and I am done.

If you don't WANT to be that guy, choose to not be that guy.

It spiraled pretty quick. Odds moved the same time Beaver was making posts. FWIW

Damn, this is getting too close.... Grew up with Bridger and Lowrance. Played ball with Gowan. Knew Pittman well and drank with him when I wasn't even old enough to be off the bottle. A shame what happened to him in front of PHBC on Paul Coffman all those years ago.

Yep know all of those guys. Worked next to Pittman when I started at JEA and also drank heavily with him a few times, loved that guy.

Another uncle (brother to the other uncle I mentioned) lived on Mt. Pleasant. He passed 2 years ago this past September. I grew up 5 mins from the Chester/Madison line (on the Madison side).

My wife and I bought the cabin looking house that the Johnson's built in the early 2000's. We're on the Chester County side.

All I ask for is a coach that would work his a$$ off to make this program what it should be. He loves UT and would only want to better it. And it is not a secret that he knows how to teach the game! Case closed

No chance he can’t bring 4 and 5 *’s immediately. Even if he is rusty (which his life has been studying football for years) he will be playing with top caliber players. Already an edge compared to what we have been used to.
