Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIII

So let’s get this straight
•Gruden has never been a head coach of a college team
•Gruden has never recruited one player
•Gruden has a mediocre at best NFL record
•Gruden doesn’t even really wanna coach college. Only reason he would is he’s getting laid off (proved that in 2012)
•Basically what it boils down to is Gruden is the star of NFL Monday Night Football, he knows how to talk QB lingo on TV, he won a Super Bowl with someone else’s team, and he went to UT 100 years ago.

Why do we want this guy, and more importantly why are we willing to break the bank to do it?

At this point,

Jav confirmed No
Larry confirmed No once, then twice.

Sorry to throw in the towel, but unless they are getting badly led astray, the writing is on the wall. He just wants to be courted.

Flame on.

Doesn't this come down to he same situation as 2012? The OG were getting the good vibes from the booster side. The nega-Grudes were getting their info from the AD & UT connections.

Currie is the wild card.

The silence from him is deafening because Butch is still our coach for whatever reason (cause it sure isn't ability). Even Hubba said he hasn't seen this type of hatered towards a UT coach ever before, not even Fooley. That gives me more hope than last time.

Guys and gals I'm going to dispel some rumors. I 'm about to break a promise I made that I wouldn't post on here about this but I'm going to even knowing many of you won't believe or choose not to believe but here goes...And no I'm not looking for e-cred or anything else unless u want to send money

The decision to fire Butch Jones HAS NOT been made. As a matter of fact, Currie has made it clear he still supports Butch and if he doesn't have any embarrassing incidents and at least makes a mid tier bowl he may be retained. The buyout HAS NOT been negotiated as many are saying...that's quite obvious since the decision to fire Butch hasn't been made. So no, the Haslams haven't agreed to pay the buyout.

Now, here's the biggie on Gruden

Jon Gruden as of 10-27-17 has told all people close to him and the boosters who have reached out to him that he has NO DESIRE to coach in Knoxville. He does however intend the move to Knoxville after the ESPN cutbacks and MNF gets scrapped by ESPN. He has said he wouldn't mind being a consultant of some sort but coaching isn't something he wants to do at the college level. Now I know many of you are wanting the man so bad that what I've said isn't going to set well with you but that is indeed fact. I seriously doubt Currie is going to sway him to coach the Vols. He does as of now intend to attend the Southern Miss game so I can only imagine that the so called insiders on this forum are gonna get fired up with him there. It means nothing. One last tidbit..Currie HAS NOT reached out to ANY coach as of today because Butch Jones is his coach and may very well be his coach next year if he finishes 8-4 or 7-5 or doesn't get blown out by KY or any other team which he considers embarrassing.

That's all the facts I know. I have opinions but I'll keep them to myself so opinions don't get confused with facts. So there you go Volnation...theres the TRUTH as of today.

**This was also posted in the Hyams thread which was a mistake I thought I was posting it in this thread

Currie would lose the fan base if Butch is still here next year. If I was Butch I wouldn't even want to be in Knoxville any longer.

Maybe Currie won't fire him so Butch will leave to be the head coach for another school....so we won't have to pay the buyout...

If this is true then our future as a decent football program is officially down the tubes. I have been called a sunshine pumper, but I have even grown disinterested in the football program. I'm a donor/season ticket holder and have no desire to watch based on the turmoil our program has currently. Once the fans become apathetic it's over and won't come back.

This sounds about right. UT is showing us that it does not care about the football program. All they care about is $$$$....

Long time lurker of the Gruden threads 2012 to Now... I’m over on TOS most of the time but came back here because you can’t beat this entertainment. I actually have info that can confirm the Butch accepting a buyout story. My neighbor’s Grandfather passed away who was a high up at Central Michigan and he went up for the funeral and went to the CMU/Toledo game. He sat with many of his grandfathers friends who were also higher ups at CMU. Apparently butch had reached out to people he considers friends/mentors to ask whether or not he should accept UT’s offer of a lump sum buyout and just resign to save face. So everyone just hold on we are so close.... SOON!
