That is where I am standing as well .... Atlanta Vol brings some additional hope but 50% seems about right to me

Yeah, Atlanta Vol keeps my hopes up. Hard to imagine him being completely off track. This AD does appear to have all the leaks sealed shut and THAT'S the folks making the hire. Soon.

At least it is not all those House Wives shows that my wife watches!

Why hasn’t Gruden openly denied his interest yet?

That is one of the main questions that keep me coming back to this thread ( that and the laughs ). It would be so easy for him to just say "not interested". JMO but makes me think negotiations are underway.

If he wants a,nd as I have maintained he has, and will continue to have passive involvement with UT denial would make the situation worse.

Just doesn't make sense to me.

Denial would not make the situation worse. Letting massive amounts of hype build up around him while he just hung out, then the day before Tennessee names a google coach as HC, come out and say it’s all rumors and he’s at ESPN. Etc.

THATS his worst case scenario. Letting rumors about himself fester for weeks. That’s a bad idea for someone like Gruden who wants to stay close to a program.

Question for the doubters:

Why hasn’t Gruden openly denied his interest yet?

You’re telling me he hasn’t heard rumors or seen the Vegas odds?

Why would he not just come out and say: “oh, that’s just a buncha rumors. I’m here at ESPN”

It would be that easy. So why hasn’t he done it yet?

Simple we still have a coach. Nothing to address

Part 2 of my "Let that sink" series:

All Gruden has to do is flash that SB ring in a recruits living room...

Done deal. 5* everywhere.

It's funny getting on my facebook and seeing all the vol fan pages posting about Gruden being the favorite to land the UT job....while I've been smiling about it for a month now :)

Something Orlando vol uncovered the other day helps me see this differently. Gruden closed on his home in Tampa may 2017. 5 short months ago. Why would he have done that if they were planning to move to Knoxville later that year?

I actually had this same thought. If it's just a relocation for wife's family, retirement, etc. that would be a long term thought out decision. You wouldn't buy a house in FL and then a short time later buy in TN to relocate.

To me this sounds like a something-that-just-came-up decision to buy the house in Knoxville.

Not on the field but has a 1000 times in his head. His playbook is probably big enough to split up for 20 teams to use from all that scribbling while watching film.

Gruden has won at the most elite level possible. He coaches elite level quarterbacks and his hobby is literally studying X’s and O’s And watching game film non-stop and breaking down plays at an elite level. Oh, plus he only Knows everyone there is to know in football in the United States.

These guys are all right. He has failure written all over him...

Fellas, I guess we better go see who is coaching Bowling Green and Kent state before Arkansas swipes them up from us.

Understand I am not advocating by any means that Butch should be retained even if he wins out. With that said I think the line of thinking within the UT AD is that Butch needs to go. As I said I think they missed a prime opportunity after SCjr loss at home. An interim would have 0 expectations at Bumma from the fan base and could build their role into a series of winnable games with a different approach.

As far as timing goes it depends I think this. We beat Kentucky I fully believe he coaches vs So. Miss. We win that one he will coach the next week. I heard someone else say that "Butch may be the best choice for interim" and I am starting to agree with that. The only game the rest of the season we should not "expect to win" is LSU. I do not see a change if we win out with the exception of LSU till after the season.

As far as Gruden I do not believe at all an offer has been made, agreed to, negotiations taking place or anything near that. I am sure they have reached out to gauge interest and I hope the interest is there but am in no way convinced by anonymous posts and some BS overseas gambling site moving their odds.

Its all about how we are viewed by potential replacements. I know many are "Full Grude" and I am in the "wishing" mode but on the "using my head" mode I am still around 10% chance he comes here to be the HC. Now a strong HC with an upside with Gruden in charge of quality control....I can get on board with that.

I will give you a real life example. When I moved to Knoxville I did so because my son was in my wife's belly and she wanted to be closer to her family. We were living in Memphis and I was running one of the top Auto Dealerships there. This was before Monster and online application so I sent resumes to several companies. Not bragging but I had my choice of jobs. One was financially above the rest by a large margin but they were going to make an opening for me by letting someone else go that was having a bad year after years of strong performance with them. They were not looking to replace him prior to receiving my application. I then interviewed at another company at an entry position, far less financially but I saw an infrastructure I could work within. I took the second job in 2004 and am still here and only answer to the President of the company.

All that to say it is easy for an employer (UT) to run off talented candidates by doing something like letting someone go after a win or after losing a game we are supposed to lose. A lot has happened to make them get to the point of being done with Butch and missed the perfect opportunity post SCjr but not to the point they fire him mid season for losing to LSU in a close game or if we look competitive.

Will Overstreet said yesterday something that stuck with me. The most sure way to get fired is fan apathy. If we win this week and have 60kish at So Miss or if there are more off the field issues that would be bad for Butch win or lose.

Thank you for the answer.... I was just trying to get another perspective and truly knew (you as me) want to see Gruden.... I have a lot of questions about several posters who claim it is a done deal.... I see NO WAY that could be hidden from the public as long as some say it has been done.... To many nosey reporters and then of course ESPN.. etc.

I do not all buy into the offshore betting thing being a reason to believe.... I have decided to re-think this and simply take what I have heard, those that I believe that have good solid information (some you know) and listen to everyone and then make up my own mind.

I think that we will talk to Gruden and probably already have had some feelers out.... the question in this not us... but rather Him.....

Also.... if Gruden was a done deal,,, Butch would have been gone after USCjr imho

Again thanks for your input

I believe Gruden is coming, but am not convinced he's already bought a house. I must've missed the proof of that.

Part 3 of "Let that sink in":

When making a decision about this program, salvaging this season isnt as important as building for future. No rush decisions. Leverage the buyout. Let your man work secretly behind the scenes. No need for an interim. Unless he resigns. If he resigns it lessens the buyout. If he stays he loses credibility.

Let that sink in.
