The state of mind of the fan base can be summed up by posts in this thread thinking Butch can't be removed if he manages to pull a win out over Kentucky. I've said it before and will say it now. The fate of a head football coach at the University of Tennessee cannot be altered by a win over Kentucky. A loss to them or Vandy can shave years off the life expectancy of a career here, but a win will not save them, nor should it. People should be embarrassed with this line of thinking.
I agree in principle (no pun intended) with all you have said. There are just a lot of "shoulds" and "coulds" there.
I believe he is done at some point between now and the end of the regular season but still maintain it will not be the week after a win (if we have another one of those).
I am basing this on this:
1. He will be gone after the Georgia blowout (didnt happen)
2. He will be gone if we lose to SC ( didnt happen to "save an interim from the Bama beating, Butch deserves this beatdown etc....)
3. He will be gone after the Bama game (didnt happen)
What is different now? We had a bye week, a supposed "lame duck" coach and have not scored an offensive TD in 14 quarters of play. Players are fighting, stitches, coach lying about fighting, embarrassing classless on the field actions (Kongbo) (Gaulden), only glimmer of hope suspended for weed......the list goes on and on.
I just cannot wrap my mind around him being let go after the Kentucky game IF WE WIN (unlikely we win imo but still..)
I asked earlier and no one responded so I will throw it out there again:
Can ANYONE name a single NCAA coach that was on the proverbial "hot seat" that was released in the week following a conference win no matter how abysmal a season he is having?
