There has to be a purpose, an intended consequence, an ulterior motive.

The only thing that makes sense to me is that it's not a done deal but that everything is in place for a deal. The only hold up is a small faction of people close to and maybe including the AD. Letting the public know that getting Gruden is not only possible but doable is a way to add pressure to the group resisting the hire. These posters are trying to remove the ability of the AD to control the narrative. They are setting the stage where if we do not get Gruden it falls squarely on the AD and his decision to go in a different direction and removes the story line of "we made a good faith effort, we presented multiple offers, and he just didn't want the job."

Just the thoughts of a restless mind unable to sleep last night due to Gruden thread overload.

Wow.Thanks for the recap. Gome since 5 yesterday and it all goes nuts. Technology needs to exist that reads the thread for you, then I could just plug in some head phones and go about my day lol.

we all know that Urban Meyer was the worst kept secret in college football when Ohio State was going to hire him! Lets compare the chatter and the time lines with that. From what I remember...there was a TON more confidence at this point in the sesason that Urban was going to coach Ohiio State than there is that JG is going to coach UT. IF things were really that solid with JG....then there would be TONS more positive chatter out there. I dont care how much disinformation UT is throwing out there. IF 100 White House employees cant keep there moth shut then there is no way 100+ UT important folks could keep their yaps shut!

As I sit here enjoying my quiet time and coffee, something came to me. A fun something. Something to kick the day off and get the "we're getting Gruden" excitement going. Like someone stated earlier, the Southern Miss game is primetime. It's homecoming. ESPN gets to make the announcement. Fits the timeline of after the Kentucky game. Announce after the game that Butch has been removed as HC of the Vols. Then, at the game, announce Gruden as new HC.
A homecoming for the football team and a "homecoming" for Coach Gruden!
How exciting that would be!
Just a fun thought from an excited, hopeful fan.

I compare it to the TAMU situation a few years back. When it was rumored that they were coming to the SEC their boards went into a frenzy kind of like how this one does when Gruden gets mentioned.

The great thing that their mods did, and this is no knock on Freak or anyone here, but they had all their stuff in the general boards, so stuff that you'd normally only get from the paywall boards was out in the open.

Their reasoning was that it was such a momentous event in their school's history that everyone needed to know what was heard/going on.

So I guess Beaver took the info he had and saw how it was possibly a huge moment in program history and felt like we needed to know.

Not for glory or ecred or anything like that, just for keeping folks up to date the best he could with info that could possibly change the program for years to come.

I don't want to be a downer, but isn't the S. Miss game on the SEC Network? I know it's a prime time slot, but it's not on ESPN which is being mentioned. if it were on ESPN this theory would make a lot of sense, SEC Network isn't even apart of a standard cable package for us northerners.

I think each team must appear at least once in each time slot of the SEC TV deals, but I could be wrong. If that is correct, though, there isn't much good for ESPN to choose from for UT the rest of the way. I wouldn't read too much into that.
