I have a theory on why Currie is waiting to fire Butch and if true, Currie is more meticulous than I would have expected.
Hear me out. Butch is too young to retire. He's going to want to coach somewhere else without a doubt. Currie and boosters have seen the product he's putting on the field and know he's going to have more bad losses. With each bad loss, Butch's stock is lowered that much more.
I think Currie is going to let him keep sinking himself until Butch comes to him and negotiates a lower buyout or negotiates a resignation sum in order to leave early and save face in hopes of salvaging what little stock he has left.
This would align with what was being rumored yesterday, that Butch and Currie have spoken and are in negotiations for a reduced buyout. Currie may be just the meticulous business man/AD we've been waiting for.
Either way, I'm going to be patient and wait on Gruden!

This actually probably is happening, they're trying to negotiate with Sexton. Hopefully they're burning the midnight oil to get this done

Tom Brady is helping us out? Sweet.

No offense but with both he and kelly, wtf are we waiting on?
An empty cupboard, worse image, more recruits to bail, all the decent hires to be already done so we are forced to a B lister.

I still have faith, but for the love of all things UT, just WTF!
Waiting for an engraved invitation from the candidates?!?

Waiting on them to take other jobs so they can validate hiring Brohm or Norvell.

Will be an embarrassing day for TN, I will stop 100% of my support for the program. Don't think I'll ever get back on board either. It's not even fun anymore. I think so many are hanging on by a thin thread with a small hope that somehow, some way it will be different this time.

It doesn't look like that will be the case

More lies are spilled on this site a day than congress in session. Figured some truth was necessary.

Already covered that in the previous thread.

Its exactly whats happening. Putting the screws to Lyle while buying negotiation time.

I don't believe this to be true. It's just bad business. If Currie and Butch are talking about his departure date, they are both looking at it from what would be best for the program. Butch will get his buyout amount, not a negotiated buyout.

But if he finds another job aren't we only on the hook for the difference in his negotiated contact with us and his next contact? If his stock keeps falling doesn't that mean more we are on the hook for?

I figure it'll take $4 million a year to get Brohm (he makes $3.5 now)
Mullen will probably take at least $5 mil
Fuente $4 mil
Durkin might be cheaper at $3.5 mil
Taggart isn't even an option

I'd prefer if they want to be cheap bastages, go with a hire like Norvell, Frost or Satterfield and make them earn their pay.

Who gives a shat.

Here is my issue. We aren't even going to attempt to hire Kelly because of "fit",that's the word and understood truth right. Every mod and anyone close to TN says it, we won't go after him. But they'll go get Brohm.

Sceew it all

Brohm is unproven. Might as well go after a coordinator.

Sounds like a great theory VolPunch and is really the only thing that makes sense as to why Butch is still the coach-but doesn't that pose some risks as well such as lost ticket sales on remaining home games as long as Butch is on sideline, more recruits recommitting, players transferring or quitting, horrible perception by media regarding Butch, etc? Of course we get Gruden and all is forgiven😀
