...a former UT assistant told me last winter that in the coaching world the Tennessee job is a "destination job," meaning a top tier job. Cowherd recently listed the Tennessee job as a Top 10 job. If you coach Tennessee and win the SEC Championship Game, you arguably are the favorite to win the national title in the the playoff. Saban was born 10/31/51, so in two weeks he will be 66, meaning his time at Alabama is nearing its end. If Gruden, now 54, becomes Tennessee's coach, wins the SEC, wins the national title, he will have won a college national title and a Super Bowl. After Gruden retires, he would eventually be nominated by Tennessee to the College Football HOF and would surely be elected. Therefore, the Tennessee job carries with it the potential for Gruden to be recognized as one of the all-time greats in football. Remaining as the color analyst on MNF would not.
