Official Jon Gruden Thread XVII

I just really want to know why anyone thinks Gruden would want to leave a cushy job paying upwards of $7 mil per year, one from which he could easily retire, to take a pay cut and jump into the meat grinder that is college football coaching? Does he just miss coaching? Then why wait 8 years? Does he want a challenge? Again, why wait 8 years? He basically has nothing to gain and everything to lose by jumping back into coaching. If he does well, he's taken a pay cut to work harder and given up a gig he may never get back. If he fails, he loses credibility and has given up a gig he may never get back. There's literally zero upside for such a move. It would be the dumbest career move in history. Now, if he were to lose the commentator gig, then I could see it, but there's no indication his job is on the line. I'm sorry. I simply see no way such a thing would ever happen.

Ok, have to ask - which one of those posts are you claiming have been proven true?

During the 2012 threads we had a guy doing something similar to what Illated94 is doing..... He later proved to be a troll ..... I hope this one is legit, but I am very suspicious right now!!!

Did u use to be Coastydad during the 2012 stint? On illated94, the guy that brought it to board says 94 called the Tuttle story before it was public and supposedly some others.. Have no idea if it's true but that was the explanation.. TiFWIW

He could possibly restore the program to an elite level. When you're that rich, it becomes about power and being the hero...I would imagine.

I didn't take time to read this BS thread! No use, Jon Gruden has always said he will never coach College Football! Get off this BS and support the coach you have now. Yes alot of doubts and negative comments. You ALL Negavols are killing our recruiting! Man Up! Yes I have peers in this program. Dont you think Butch, Players, Recruits see this BS? I know for a fact they are! We've done lost one and another has opened up his recruitment (Local talent). Keepit up we want have sh**!

Leave this sacred space heathen.

See? You get it but you still don't get it.

That's EXACTLY what this thread is. It's not for debating about whether or not Gruden will be a good college coach, it's not for dissecting his record. It's really not for anything but hanging out, having a good time, and hopefully get a little info now and then.

No one here feels the need to defend our choice in wanting Gruden. We aren't thread hopping trying to convince others to convert because we don't care really.

The regulars in here made up their mind about Gruden years ago.

I feel most folks are grown enough to decide who they want as a coach without being told how wrong they are.

Like someone said earlier and way better than I can, this thread is the tailgate party of the forum.

The sooner you realize that, relax, realize we don't want to discuss or argue or debate, the quicker you'll start to enjoy this thread.

Relax, let it go, let the Gruden wash over you (or not) , but just hang out, join in the jokes and convo, and take it for what it is.

Very well stated!

I would much like to see Gruden here, I think it would be great for UT football and extremely excite and ignite the fan base and recruiting as well.
But to me, this tells me more that there's nothing going on between him and the university than that there is. Him being in town and visible right now as he is tells me he is just here to spend time with his wife, her family, and son etc and having a good time since MNF is in Nashville Monday. I don't think that with all the stuff surrounding the program right now and Butch still being the coach, there's no way he'd be this visible and out and about if he was here for anything pertaining to talking about the UT job.

Which makes it the perfect cover.

I will be driving my Jeep Cherokee to a meeting tomorrow, and sit down while Im there. One of my hubcaps is missing but it won't be visible because I took the other three off. Didn't think it was a big deal anyway.

I may have stolen your hubcap when I was in Florida last weekend.

Just out of curiosity, how much money do you think our Administration would have to pony up to bring Gruden to Knoxville as our HC?

I’m guessing around 7-8 Million? Maybe even more than that.

Yes this story line seems all very familiar. A news story from CTF reported Gruden offered job and accepted and it was a "done Deal' I think these are all trolls trying to get peoples hopes up and/or messing with people. They may think they have an inside source, but all it means is NOTHING.....

Just like the policeman say" there is nothing to see here, please move along. There is nothing to see"
