Amazing how bitter many are, so much that they act like its a sin to admit Butch did a few positive things. If you mention anything positive whatsoever, it means you want him to stay.

"I'm not bitter, I'm just consumed by a gnawing hate that's eating away at my gut until I can taste the bile in my mouth!"

Butchite, imo.

Lol!

Imagine being the top quarterback recruit in the country and getting a call from Tennessee and it's Chuckie and Peyton on speakerphone asking you if you'd like to come down for a Knoxville meet & greet.

This scenario gives me the warm fuzzies.

Truth brother. They need to learn how to take the win minus the doubling down on reinventing reality. :pinch:

Okay, everything in context...

One can look back and say in hindsight Dooley and Lyle were not good hires for the program. However, I'm a positive guy and try to look for the silver lining in pretty much everything.

Dooley, while being a completely inept coach, did manage to bring us back from the brink of the NCAA sanctions path Kiffin certainly had us on. Now, moral character of the players he brought in was never a topic of discussion. But the simple fact he managed to keep the NCAA at bay when they were all but gunning for us was the point I made.

And Butch, given his many faults of on field performance, did recruit at way higher levels than Dooley, Kiffin and Fulmer in his later years. His flaw was not being able to develop said talent nor change his own philosophy into on field performance. But nobody can ever say he was asleep at the wheel when it came to recruiting.

So, we have two coaches, one of which ran a clean program NCAA wise and another who recruited high level talent. Neither of which has good on field performances. The next logical step in this process is to get a coach in that will develop that NCAA sanction-less and high level talent into a championship caliber team.

cool. I don't have any huge issues with this.

From the Twenty-Fourth Book of Orange:

He that shall not be named spread darkness across the South, converting many to his heathen ways. They donned the crimson robes, a great pestilence across the world. Laughing in his fortress of doom, his darkness consumed all four corners of the world. The wicked believed his reign would last until the ends of the earth. But there were some who resisted.

The faithful few, ridiculed by their brothers and sisters, held true to their prophecies.
The white alter was adorned with orange strips of cloth. Winged beasts scoured the skies, gazed upon by those who knew of the Truth. The believers knew the True One was approaching with the dawn. They were shunned for their faith, but they persisted.

As the minions of the Dark Lord defeated the faithful in the bowels of the earth, the final prophecy was fulfilled. The False One of Many Strange Words was cast from the city, left to wander the earth. White smoke summoned the One True Gruden, beckoning him to his rightful throne. There was much rejoicing. The faithless were forgiven, welcomed back to the fold by the true believers. The Vile One trembled among his hordes of elephants, as he knew his end was nigh.

Behold, the One True Gruden has come.

"True" is not necessary for this discussion thread. Just pie in the sky speculation and wishful dreams.

In that case if my #2 were to become true, I would make my triumphant return to the south endzone and act a total fool in front of God and everybody on each and every 3rd down!

Well, some people are just so miserable that they feel the compulsion to wander over to where other people are optimistic and hopeful about the future, and do their darndest to make THEM miserable also.

Aint gonna work. #YouGoGrude

Analogy time.

If you are a citizen of North Korea and it could/should be like South Korea who is in the wrong in such a situation? The people spreading a message of hope and optimism or of misery and injustice?

Now, you say, "bad analogy. Because sports are not like living conditions in countries, they aren't as important." And right you would be. But you would be wrong to assume that those who have been negative about Tennessee football are negative about everything else about life or are miserable people to be around. Badly wrong.

I'd assume ASAP. Hire Gruden announce his hire, but allow him to just recruit and gather his team. Let the other coaches run the team til end of season. With early signing period the firing has to be done before December. Otherwise it's a PR nightmare with players signing then upset Butch is gone.
