Wait, you proved that Dooley's players didn't sexually asault? You need to go into lawyering.

For all three years that Dooley was here, we were fed lie after lie about how Dooley was remaking the program with high character guys. A supposed turnabout from the Fulmer and Lane days. It turned out to be nonsense. So, yes, I guess you did "provide the lie" to that statement (in that you made it up and then provided it).

Dooley's recruits, yes.

Now, answer me this, Einstein. Who was the head coach when that happened?

Two points about these comments:

1. Finally, finally, FINALLY, our people are swinging for the fences. Peyton Manning is stepping up in a big way to get various interests all pulling in the same direction.

2. I know most of us here want Gruden badly, but if he does say no, we are still going after Top Men.

Our decade of disaster is almost over. Hang tight!

If it is all true, then it looks like we might finally have a "go big or go home" mentality in the AD. We can only hope.

If Currie strikes out with Gruden, he should be given props for at least getting into the batter's box and taking his cuts.

I have no problem assigning Butch some blame for the issues whatsoever. I'm probably one of the few that thinks Butch is almost as crappy as Dooley.

Interesting, though, that he has had less trouble controlling his own recruits.

I guess he said it. I have spent the last 8 years arguing with fools that thought Dooley and Butch were good for UT. I don't have the patience to go "10 rounds" or whatever with someone who is still stuck there.

Dear Lord, cherry pick portions of my posts much?

Go back and reread what I posted about Dooley and Lyle. And see where I stand on the coaching search issue.

Then, try not to breathe through your mouth as much when you make your next post on the matter.

Caught the MNF guys rolling through this morning. As I passed the truck I looked over and was surprised to see Gruden driving.

He noticed my TN polo, smiled, gave a tug on the horn and mouthed the word "soon" to me. :loco:

That would’ve made me tug something.. :) too far?

The Gruden thread is supposed to be about hope, peace, and grumors. Take that anger to the PF fellas. This is a Grud times only zone.

Woke up this morning hoping for some grude news, even though I know better. Will be hoping and cheering for a Vol win on Saturday and regardless of the outcome I'll wake up Sunday hoping for some grude news again.

The main issue I had is that you said

now it's time to take the next logical step in that process to developing talent into annual competitors.

To me this implied that Dooley and Butch were also logical steps (given the positives you gave for them and all). If I misunderstood and/or you would like to rephrase then I will retract.

To be clear. My position is, and always has been, that Dooley and Butch are garbage coaches and should have never been within miles of the University of Tennessee head coaching position.

I believe the mentality has shifted. The proof will be in the hire. We will know soon enough, although not before Bama, I think.

I had 3 bits of info flow my way, Grumor #1 is solid. #2 should be taken with a grain of Salt. #3 should be pretty easy to verify this afternoon. Due to contractual obligations I'm only permitted to post Grumor on twitter, but they should be incredibly easy to find using #Grumor

Update #4
my ignore list just grew by one

Okay, everything in context...

One can look back and say in hindsight Dooley and Lyle were not good hires for the program. However, I'm a positive guy and try to look for the silver lining in pretty much everything.

Dooley, while being a completely inept coach, did manage to bring us back from the brink of the NCAA sanctions path Kiffin certainly had us on. Now, moral character of the players he brought in was never a topic of discussion. But the simple fact he managed to keep the NCAA at bay when they were all but gunning for us was the point I made.

And Butch, given his many faults of on field performance, did recruit at way higher levels than Dooley, Kiffin and Fulmer in his later years. His flaw was not being able to develop said talent nor change his own philosophy into on field performance. But nobody can ever say he was asleep at the wheel when it came to recruiting.

So, we have two coaches, one of which ran a clean program NCAA wise and another who recruited high level talent. Neither of which has good on field performances. The next logical step in this process is to get a coach in that will develop that NCAA sanction-less and high level talent into a championship caliber team.
