One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the other half of John's equation = Cindy Gruden.
Are her parents living in TN? If so, what's there health and age? Maybe the timing is right for her to come back to TN? I just don't think that money is the sole driving factor here. John has probably made 30-50 million already. I don't think there's any doubt he would still like to coach. The man eats, breathes and lives football. Control of the program/staff and Cindy's input will be the deciding factor, IMO TIFWIW

I agree. His family will either make or break this hire

Not buying it. Battered spouse syndrome.

"Honey, I know you ran off with the cabana boy and got us into all kinds of trouble on the way out. But I love you and will give you a second chance."

Can't get behind a Kiffin hire. Same rationale goes for Petrino to a more limited extent.

I understand how you see it that way but I always liked Kiffin and never really held his leaving against him. I firmly lay that blame on Hamilton for supposedly having the knowledge that if the opportunity came Kiffin would bolt for USC. Hamilton should have had the wheels in motion the moment things started heading south for the Trojans. Instead he gave us Dooley because he didn't do a thing until the hammer fell.

I understand the animosity towards Lane but I also understand it's about winning and people would definitely warm up to him if and when he beat bama. Hell, he almost did it with that horrible roster we had the year he was here.

I've read all the posts and agree that Gruden would be the man for the job. We all know his ties here and his love of our beloved university. Are there those that doubt him because of his time away and some scetchy records in the pros, sure. That's not the point, he is a winner and has the drive that is wanted and needed here. I'm all in.

Kiffin, no. He burned all of us as a whole. He was only out for him and didn't have the love of program and state that we all do and expect of a coach and staff that are employed here.

Bottom line, soon........

Good morning everyone.

Guys, y'all need to relax. No emotional rollercoaster. Tennessee is doing things the right way this time.
Unified large booster base.
Unified Athletic Department.
Influential power players who love UT and are working behind the scenes.
#18?

Sketchy record in the pros.

Lol.

More from JAV on 247.... TIFWIW: SOON

"I want to be clear that I am in the I'll believe it when I see it boat in regards to him being the HC here. What I do know is that there is a clear plan being put together that will make him seriously consider coming. If he doesn't, it won't be because UT didn't put forth their very best effort.

Chucky is meticulously organized, has his own idea of exactly how he would run a hybrid power spread, has a list of guys he wants as assistants if he ever were to make the leap into CFB. He already has a plan for how he would want to recruit. He's put all of those things together over time for a reason.

Any back channel communication has not been initiated by anyone in the AD. That would be disastrous. If/when Currie gets involved, alot will have already been laid out. This is where Hart failed the last time and any opportunity for a deal went south.

He still sees himself as a coach. He doesn't look at himself as a member of the media. His circumstances and priorities have changed and most importantly, our circumstances have changed since last time around. IMO, this is the first time in over a decade that there's a real opportunity to hire a program changer due to the popularity of the new AD with all who are involved. I want it to be Chucky but if it isn't him, I'm confident that we will still continue fishing in deep water."

So you are saying there's a chance.

I liked Kiffin. Wish he had stayed. I don't have battered wife syndrome, I don't blame him one bit for leaving for his dream job. But he failed at his dream job and was fired, in embarrassing fashion.

A big reason we are being laughed at by pretty much everyone, is because of dumb stuff Butch says. Obviously there is more to it, but that is a large part of it.

No guarantee that anyone "gets it done", but can you imagine what it would be like if Kiffin didn't?

I don't think he could pull it off. But that's just my opinion.
