Official Jon Gruden Thread XVII

There are a lot of college coaches with greater than 80 percent career winning percentages. In the Super Bowl era of the NFL only John Madden is at 75 percent for coaches that have coached over 10 seasons. Bill Belichick is arguably the best coach ever. His winning percentage in his career is 67 percent.

The NFL is magnitudes more balanced than CFB. There are no gimmie wins.

Just an FYI. Gruden's overall record is 95-81 or .54%. Butch Jones' overall record is 133-83 overall or .62%.

Heck, even this year so far his winning % is better than Gruden's. So, keep on with the Grumors if you want a .54% winning % coach to replace your .600 winning percentage coach. LOL

Just Saying!

Pretty sure it's a little tougher sledding in the NFL vs the MAC and Big East. Why don't you put out Jones SEC win %

There is a.guy claiming to have inside info over in the Venables thread.

Claims Currie is meeting with a search firm next week to get recommendations for our new coach.

He claims to have seen a list of potential candidates, Brohm, Mullen, and a couple other, no to Gruden.

So what I'm wondering is do we need to pay this guy a visit for spreading this blasphemy? We can't let this go on? Can we?

Hail Gruden!!
no offense but those are not considered a good list. Purdue would have to pay a huge buyout and i dont want him. Mullen probs wont leave starkville and thats ok with.

Here is the post.. I almost puked when I read it..

yea man im not buying his info....chad morris?! Jeff Brohm?! those are not big time guys #smokescreen. The Vin Man joined this moth and has 6 posts, so I highly doubt he has inside knowledge

I wish I had a dollar for every time someone posted the questions "Why would Gruden come?" And "How do we even know he'd do a good job?" Lmao, we'd be an instant contender with Jon. He knows it. Currie knows it. Peyton knows it. I now believe the BOT knows it. I now believe the boosters know it.

I've missed this since last time. I told my husband last night that it's the most positive place on the internet. I don't post much, but I'm connected just enough to know how close we were to getting him last time.
To me, the primary benefit to Gruden (other than his x's and o's) is how instantly he neutralizes the recruiting disadvantage in TN. Overnight we are on equal footing with Bama. Regardless, our hire has to have this name recognition to compete for recruits.
Of course, I know it's going to be Gruden though!!

I’ve been a long time visitor of Vol Nation, but not someone who posts. However, I do have access to small bits of information surrounding the program that may be of interest. What I can tell you is Currie is meeting with an outside advisory group next week to go through a list of their names and recommendations. The firm he’s meeting with advises colleges all over the country when a change is needed. They were utilized the last time Tennessee had an opening and advised the AD/BOT to not hire Butch, but they went against their recommendation. Who knows what will happen this time around.

I did see the early list of candidates. Obviously things can change, but their recommendation is to not go with a defensive coordinator like Venables. Their information shows there is a much greater chance that an offensive minded coach will succeed. I brought up Kirby Smart and his early success, and his counter was UGA went 8-5 his first year and they have 10 or 11 defensive starters on this years team that will be playing in the NFL or will graduate. Plus, they lose Chubb and Michel. He said that outside of Saban and Stoops, the success rate for defensive head coaches is far less certain than an offensive minded coach.

He said the names to watch are Jeff Brohm and Chad Morris. He said the first call will and should be to Chip Kelly, but it’s a known fact that Chip is not a huge fan of passionate fanbases where roadshows, alumni & booster clubs meet and greets are the norm. Kelly will be more apt to take a job at UCLA if it’s available than Tennessee. Fuente, Patterson, Peterson are highly unlikely to leave their schools. He thinks Scott Frost needs more time. There are some mid-major coaches he likes like the coach at Troy, but that is not the splash UT is looking for.

This is the post from the guy over in the other thread

It's been suggested to me that there are 3 names on the target list. I've been unable to get a read on who those names are. All speculation on my part has been met with "it's a good list".

I don't like not knowing things.

And in my pessimism with the higher ups, I believe that list is Gruden, Kelly and Tom Resptiner from Wyoming State. He’s an up and comer with 4 state titles and runs this new offense ran out of the extra point formation.

Yea i saw his post, he signed up on this site this month so idk how much stock I would put in his word.

I think it is just someone trying to earn some e-cred or trolling.... right now (as bad as it sounds) I am hanging my hat on Finebaum (Slice, Boro, you and the others here)

Gruden or burst
