Apparently the grumor is that he wouldn’t consider coaching here while his son was attending.

The son is possibly transferring to UT Chattanooga. He loves his dad so much, that he doesn't want to be the reason why Gruden doesn't accept his dream job.

Dave Hart needs his arse kicked if 5 years ago we truly got close enough to land Gruden that they were negotiating assistant coaches salaries. For goodness sake it makes me sick to think about. Why even bother to try and hire Gruden if your going to hamstring him and cheap out on the assistant coaches. Realistically how far apart could than have been 1-2 million per year tops. I bet Ol' Butchs buyout they about to pay would have covered the difference. I wasn't a math major but it seems to be more expensive to hire a coach and then have to fire them, than it is to pay top dollar to a great coach.

Can someone explain why we should hire a guy with 0 college head coaching experience and whose NFL record was barely over 0.500? Do we have any evidence that he will be a voracious recruiter? When Butch gets popped, we should go after a proven winner (Chip Kelly, Bob Stoops, Bobby Petrino, etc.) not a so-so NFL coach who hasn't been on the sidelines in nearly a decade.

If you're going by NFL statistics alone - Nick Saban's best season at Miami was a .563 and his second season was a .375. Saban did have plenty of years prior to his NFL tenure in college. I still think given Gruden's attitude and the fact that people/players like him that he'd be successful. He could recruit well, and you know he can develop quarterbacks.

If I had to choose- A coach that was mediocre in the Conference USA or a former NFL Super Bowl winning coach. I'm taking Gruden!

It was two things that hindered the hiring last time (three if you count Hart) 1. Gruden wanted control of who he could hire and fire without interference from the administration...2. Hart refused to pony up enough money to hire the assistants that Gruden wanted ...

That is simply it... we are hearing that the money is there to hire the best this time without restrictions.... I hope that also covers #1....

Yet NO ONE has said the hire would be Gruden, but those of us who are OGs are reading between the lines and hoping that is the case.... I hope this clarifies it for you

Good Morning All. Just think we can be watching Gruden lead the team through the Vol walk next year and finally have a well coached team.

It's not a coincidence that UT is in need of a new coach the same year a new "Child's Play" movie is being released.
