Can someone explain why we should hire a guy with 0 college head coaching experience and whose NFL record was barely over 0.500? Do we have any evidence that he will be a voracious recruiter? When Butch gets popped, we should go after a proven winner (Chip Kelly, Bob Stoops, Bobby Petrino, etc.) not a so-so NFL coach who hasn't been on the sidelines in nearly a decade.

I am a Chip guy myself; however one of Butch's major faults has been player development, and game mismanagement.

Gruden would certainly be able to develop players, not to mention he would be a masterful QB developer.

His name, his NFL exp, his ring...........would = recruiting success.

Gruden may not be the best NFL coach of all time, but at the college level, he would rarely if ever be out coached.

Gruden has the name and contacts (and if hired would have the budget) to hire some of if not the, best assistants in college football.

This question has been asked at least 20 times in this thread.

Take that negativity to the hire Bill Snyder thread.

Stephen Hargis was on the local ESPN affiliate here in Chattanooga today. Told the story of what lead to his article in the Times Free Press. He was having lunch with Vic Grider, former and now again coach of South Pittsburgh High School Football. Grider received a phone call and on the caller ID it said Jon Gruden. Grider was a student manager for UT in the 80s while Gruden was a GA. They roomed together and had remained friends. Anyways Gruden wanted Grider to be his high school liason to help repair some of the severed relationships between UT and TN high school coaches as a result of Dooley's ignorance.
How did this post get buried?

UT is not agreeing to that for Mike Houston.
