Official Jon Gruden Thread XVII

I think Gruden would want to remove any and all negativity associated with this program. That would include removing entire staff and starting with a clean slate regardless of any talent.

I would tend to think any new coach would (should) look at the current staff to identify the "diamonds in the rough" for lack of a better term. I'm not saying Robbie G is the end all, be all of RB coaches, but our running game hasn't faltered at all over the past few years. And he's got a good eye for talent on the recruiting trail.

Any new coach has to measure who he would bring against the current staff. If Gillespie's style fits into a new offense, there is no reason to dismiss them just because of perceived "negativity."

Cue the "thanks Mrs. Gillespie" comments.

Possibly, although he might want to bring in his own guy. If Gruden is hired, keep your eye on Jim Leavitt. They’ve been friends for a long time.

I'd love Leavitt.

I'm not convinced Shoop can't succeed but I won't make any argument that we should keep him.

I'm for whatever Gruden wants.

Both Graham and Gillespie are good and I am a gatorhater but the ex gator is Vol to me and I think he recruits well and develops great. This is why I would choose coach Gillespie.

Most of us in here know the chance of landing Gruden is very slim, but if there is a chance we MUST take it.......... When I married my wife she was a long shot for someone like me and deserved much better...... BUT if I had never taken a chance and asked, I would have not married her and she certainly could have married someone else...

We now have 2 children and five grandchildren and have been married for 46 years... It all happened because I took a chance..

That is all I hope for from Currie and company..... shoot for the stars, take a chance who knows where it goes

The chance is not slim.

1) I would think Gruden would need to keep a couple of the current assistants for the sake of the relationships with recruits in the next class.
2) I would think Walt Wells might need to be retained in some capacity for the sake of the fertile TN recruiting grounds.
3) I would think that he would need some college guys on staff to help keep him in check recruiting, as he has implied himself that he doesn't know the in's and out's of what's allowed recruiting.

Just my thoughts.
I know nothing.

Sorry my difference in opinion triggers you. Hope you find a safe space.

I didn't realize this was just a nonsensical Chuck Norris is everything and can do everything type of thread.

Meh,it wouldn't be a true Gruden thread without the occasional person dropping by to tell us we are stupid. Just remember that part of the fun is us Grudenites shouting you down with a blind closed mindedness akin to what you get dealing with those who still believe in Butch. It's all just a game for the most part and most of us are laughing when we are typing our "angry" responses.

Now that you do (you are sure sloooooowww on the uptake, aint ya), you are free to leave.

Everyone will gradually put you on ignore, and then you will be doing de jure what you have already been doing de facto for a long time: talking to yourself.

You think you are having fun, but everyone here is laughing at your desperate need for validation.

Tootles!

The Grudenites have set sail for greener pasture, under a "new" regime. Should you feel the need to steal our "sunshine," feel free to jump overboard. Be mindful, we don't throw life preservers.

I can't wait to be in Neyland for a game when they're doing the starting lineup and we hear "And the Vols are led by... Coach... JON GRUDEN"
