Does anyone else think all these names are smokescreens??? I expected smokescreens with Currie, but I guess I didn't expect them from Fulmer.
To my volnation family,
I came home from the whole thing with my mom passing (coroner's and funeral home loading her body and trying to find all the pertinent info to take to the FH this morning) and sat down with my laptop, just to get on the board for a little distraction.
I was absolutely overwhelmed with the outpouring of support i received in this thread. absolutely stunned. i cried reading your posts, but it was a different sort of tears than i'd been shedding. i don't know what to say. thank you seems so feeble.
well, gotta go take care of business. dread it. gonna be a long week. we will have some arrangements in SC, then transported to hometown TN for service and burial.
please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

You sure? Its still not showing on his post history. (Sorry if already addressed; endlessly playing catch-up.)
I choose to believe that silence by AtlantaVol and others, awkward silences on MMF, plus mysterious disappearances by certain posters indicates that good news is about to happen.
Thats just me though. Im an optimist by nature.
the fans are going to think (and most already do, vehemently for a lot) what they think about any particular candidate....good and bad.
i think it's probably safe to say that aside from a gruden hire, whoever they trot out there, isn't going to be accepted universally by the fan base.
and that's true pre and post Currie. if anything, i think it may be a tad worse now, because so many have gotten re-energized with Search 2.0.
Morning fellas! and ladies...
Well here we are. Tuesday morning of hiring week. Its do or die time. Here is where I am at.
My AD contact thinks its between Les Miles or Mel Tucker. He is leaning towards Les. I asked him why that was, and he said just because of the relationship and respect that Phillip has for Les. I asked about Gruden and he chuckled. I asked why and he said, well, he hasn't said no so there is always a possibility. He said when he mentioned it around Phillip and some boosters that were there on Thursday and Friday, everyone got quiet.
My VFL contacts, all seem to lean towards Les. They are tired of the Gruden talk and think its not him. They do think however, that Tee is coming home. if I had to say, I would say 85% Les, 15% whoever else on them. Said info has dried up and Phillip isn't talking. I am not talking about VFLs (former players) that were just on the team. These were ones that played and are very close to Phillip to this day.
My two booster contacts, they are Gruden. They said that they have met and countered and met again every demand and wish that Gruden wanted for the staff and so on. They have negotiated several times, and they think that just for the pure fact that they are still doing this, they believe its him. You don't go this far in the process if you don't want it. They think, from talking with him and the other boosters, that he is for sure interested in coaching and this is the only place he would be willing to go to. That's where they are at on this.
So, now my take. Its so hard. I have all the info, heard all this from my contacts, and still I am on the fence. Well barely. The information has literally dried up in the past 36 hours, no leaking which I find odd. Do they know something and someone isn't talking? I was here in 2012 and got burned. I disappeared for awhile. not because I was hurt or run off, but just mad that my University let us down and chose Jones instead.
I know its much different this time, but I still have that little fear in the back of my mind he says no. But based on where we are today, I'm leaning towards Gruden. I just don't see how we go this far and meet everything he wants and some and he says no. If he does, I wont be mad. We gave it all. I appreciate what our boosters did and the movement we made and the stance we took. I firmly believe TN football is back. That was a huge step. And with that, I think Gruden accepts. He hasn't said no yet. Just based on the feeling I have and the way everything has been quiet. I may be wrong, my sources aren't talking, but that is just me stating I think he will take it. I guess Ill sit back and see what happens!
And as always if I hear anything, of course I will tell either way.
Whoa. Relevant. Let's discuss.

BREAKING: Dish Network CEO Charlie Ergen has stepped down from the role "to devote more attention to the company's emerging wireless business", will remain chairman.
It is about added value, or wins over replacement. Use cfbstats and see how much he improves teams. Use 247 and see how he improves recruiting. I've done the legwork, but won't do it again.
Though I'm not optimistic Phil is a moneyball type of guy. I'm afraid he just wants a good ole boy that runs rock in i formation like it is the 50s. We will see if he has evolved and uses analytics and context.
That's exactly how I feel. I feel like he would have already let us down if he truly didn't want to coach or wasn't interested. I think the fact that he has been silent, tells a lot. I could be wrong, and I am willing to accept it, but to me, it just seems that with the disaster last week, he needed to work some things out and there was a timetable all along and we didn't know it. We'll see. Maybe I am smoking something this morning, but he could have shot down things last night on MNF and didn't. there were some awkward pauses and weird vibe when UT was mentioned. I am still on the train. Not the Lane one.
That was immediately after the shine debacle and being spurned by Gundy. He looked like a shiny new nickel in that light.
I realize that I'm way behind but I just read this post and believe there is a lot of truth in it. Let's not candy coat it. From top to bottom our program is a mess right now with the alleged infighting amongst boosters all the way down to the depth and talent of the team itself. There is a major rebuilding that needs to be done and I think there will be a definite period of frustration and struggle we will have to weather before we get anywhere close to where we want to be.
Not many coaches are going to want to take on a job like that without the insurance of a huge contract. The struggle of the rebuild will definitely cause even the hottest of coaches luster to tarnish. Looking at our program's recent history, every coach out there realizes that coming here and turning this around will be a huge gamble and the odds aren't in their favor.
All of this is why my faith in Gruden is all but gone. He has spent a decade enjoying the role of being the hottest "available" coach on the market. I am not sure he wants to risk his legend by taking over our mess right now. I believe he loves Tennessee but not enough to put himself or his family under the scrutiny that would come from taking the job. We have built him up to be a superhero that would equal instant success and he could very well be but there would be very little tolerance for any failure. I am sure he is aware of all of this and I'm afraid that's why he will end up turning us down.
I see us ending up with either a young up and comer looking for his first big job with something to prove or an out of work older veteran who just wants to coach again and isn't really worried about proving anything.
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade or sway opinions. This is just where I'm at and hope I am once again dead wrong.
