This is MHO only. He is very well revered in TN. He loves the Vols and the University. I believe that he doesn't want to take the job and fail. He doesn't want to lose all that admiration. We will all see him as a failure and he can't live with that on his conscious.

I watched a once proud program get torn apart in a single season this year because the AD was too stupid to remove a coach when everyone, and I do mean everyone, knew he needed to be removed. Yet he continued until the pressure was so bad to fire him, he had no other choice.

Only to turn around and completely eff up what should have been a reasonably simple process if we are to believe the rumors. Which turned this once proud program into a laughingstock which in turn made it into the most pitiful program in recent memory. We fans ignored that and committed ourselves to change at the AD level and pushing out the old money. We did our part. Now it's time for them to hold up the end of their bargain.

I don't care if it's Gruden, Miles, Petersen or Tee. Just get us a coach we can be proud of and put some fire back into this program. No more substandard hires, no more up and comers, no more three and outs. They get someone that's honored to wear the Power T and know what it represents or they risk losing a loyal fan base that rose to the occasion.

I didn't say there weren't other ways to handle the situation. He's taking a different route though and I don't have a problem with it..

I've been in the I'll believe it when I see it camp from the get go (2012 and 2017). I've enjoyed these threads because I view them as a source of entertainment. Unfortunately many on here are way to invested in this and ride a roller coaster of emotion.

The sun is going to come up and I am going to keep on loving life, speaking for myself I am interested but it's not the end of the world. And how does one determine who is too invested? Just curious. There is nothing wrong with being intense about something as long as you are grounded personally. That said, GRUDEN TO ROCKY TOP!!!!!:rock:

Seems like a reasonable request... IF there was no interest by either party. I think there is a chance this has legs.

100%...I'm sure everyone here remembers their first time at Neyland. To me every time is like the first time though. The Power T opens up and that flag comes out from beneath the stands...I'm getting chills just thinking about it...and over 100,000 people who are different in every way come together for one single purpose...to cheer our butts off for the one team that brings us all together that day.

I have always wondered what that looks like for an opposing team...I want their fear back again...true "we are in THEIR house" fear. I know that it will be a long process but a good hire will expedite that.

Agree.. As far as determining when one might be to invested? I would say when it starts having an adverse affect on day to day living. And you're right, nothing at all wrong with intensity. For me, I was most intense on restricting/eliminating the HoH influence on the AD. Has it been elminated, I doubt it, but I do believe it has been restricted significantly. It's been needed for so long and I am extremely happy about it.

I have no doubts that he will screw the pooch on this deal and all of VN's efforts will have been in vain.

I read what happened tonight one of two ways:

1. Gruden is struggling with a decision. Sean's comment might have been meant as a nudge. Maybe he was telling him "The longer you wait to decide, the more torture you're putting those fans through." Or, it could be that Sean and some of the other crew are annoyed with not knowing if they'll need to replace him.

OR

2. I'm going to play devil's advocate here... People wonder why, if he really loves UT, Gruden won't just put a stop to the rumors if he isn't coming. The flip side of this is that he doesn't want to reject UT in front of a national audience. He may not want to cause more embarrassment for us. If he says nothing, we will eventually hire a coach, and no one can claim that he outright rejected us if he never addresses the speculation.

3. PF met with Gruden on Saturday asked what was needed money, length of contract, buyout, contract detail, coaches, personnel, etc..PF relays to involved boosters, possibly Davenport. Gruden waiting on our side.

Or offer was made and Gruden countered and is waiting on our end.

Lastly, offer was made, timeline given (72 hours maybe) to respond just waiting on Gruden to go over with agent, lawyer, Cindy. Also putting together final pieces of staff.

My gut instinct (doesn't mean squat I know) tells me that we will know whether Gruden is in or out by 12 noon Wednesday (just a guess on the time, could be late afternoon). National Football Foundation college HOF dinner isn't goes until 10:30pm Tuesday. PF in attendance with PM

PF has a backup plan of Miles/Martin/Steele set and ready to go should Gruden decline.

For the last week on this roller coaster ride I've haven't slept very good, consumed way too much alcohol, haven't been eating much, taken ridicule from every one at work, laughed at, not payed much attention to my wife, haven't given the dog a bath. But talking to and reading on this thread(best people in VN BTW) has helped me tremendously stay somewhat sane. My mind won't let me just wait and see if/when he's gonna lower the boom. It just helps me think of possible scenarios and if this admin/program is serious about return this proud program to its rightful place. I just wanted to write, share and get feedback, start convo. I still believe he's COMING. GTTH VERY SOON!

If this falls through, I will NEVER hear the end of it. I have been 150% Gruden the whole way with friends and family who just laugh at me and say “no way”. It’s about time Tennessee proves people wrong though. GRUDEN TO THE HILL!
