Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVIII

It’s called being realistic and having a conversation about coaches that we will probably have. Of course, we all want gruden but we have to be realistic and be prepared for a “Steele” type hire.
Do not bring realism into the gruden thread. We won't have it and don't want it. kthxby

Just an observation, but why would McDonough know who is or isn’t calling Gruden? Does he have his phone records??

The word “phone” was never used in the conversation. He said if you had answered the call. Answering the call is a common phrase. It was not literal.

Hubbs is talking the Steele

I do not think Hubbs knows any more than us now. It was very telling when he was denying all the Grumors earlier last month, but then showed up at the airport. I think he just has to babble at this point to keep his paid customers on board.

However, if it is Steele, shoot me. Please somebody.

Don't know if any of you on Twitter use TweetDeck, but the tweets containing 'Gruden' are flying by so fast they're impossible to read without stopping the flow ...

I agree, man. As many times as these local talking heads have been wrong over the last week, we shouldn’t pay any of them any mind. You get better info in these forums.

Hmm the Begals are winning and they wear Orange. But the Tennessee players are generally on the Steelers, right?

What to make of this.

Ok, just so we can over-analyze this MNF convo.

Keep context in mind. This was the first play from scrimmage in the 2nd half. Sideline reporter has just finished talking about how teams would respond after the gruesome injury. Sean also comments on the injury situation.

Jon doesn't comment on the injury stuff, but is instead watching the first play. His first comment is about Cam Sutton out of UT. Now it was relevant to mention him by name since he was replacing a cornerback presumably for the entire 2nd half. Also, ESPN put up a graphic essentially introducing Cam Sutton -- with his university listed. Then it seemed like Sean really wanted to bring up UT situation because he quickly says the "His alma mater needs a coach" right after Gruden says "They (referring to the Steelers) need a stop. So Sean is using a play on words here, but is referring back to UT while Jon had already tried to move on after mentioning Sutton.

However, Gruden does respond and says "Sure do. It'll hopefully be a matter of time." So Jon is stressing the importance of time here. He wants it (whatever it is) to happen soon. Then Jon goes on to say "It's been a long while since they've solve that". What is he referring to here? Is he talking about this particular coaching search? Or is he referencing the years since Fulmer was fired? Either way, it's another reference to time here by Gruden.

Now, Sean could leave the subject and go back to calling the game. Instead he purposely brings up the 'Gruden to UT' idea by saying "Well if you had just answered the call you could've saved them an awful (puts emphasis on awful) lot of time there on Rocky Top.

Notice he said "the call". This doesn't have to be a phone call... Maybe it's the call from fans or from the media. So Sean is either serious or completely trolling here. However, it is interesting that he wanted to emphasize UT has had an awful lot of trouble. Again, not sure if he means this coaching search or the post-Fulmer years, but he is aware at least that UT football program has been through a lot lately.

Did you go to MIT by chance?

What pisses me off are the ones who come in here and are disrespectful and act like we are morons for believing it was a possibility. I am also realistic, but after the last 10 years you can't fault anybody for wanting to believe that we will be great again. For me, it's bigger than Gruden..... i'm fighting against apathy.
