Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVIII

The money would be made back in spades! No doubt about it. SOON! Gruden to the Hill!!!!!

I’m just saying Fulmer over threw a single family of power with the help of multiple wealthy families. They didn’t over throw the haslams so they didn’t have a say. They were sick and tired of paying the big bucks and watching one man get to make all the decisions. They wanted fulmer in there cause Fulmer has been the one taking all their money! That’s what his job has been. They got him the job. His huge numbers he brought to the table of donations were so he could be their guy. They get an ear now. Fulmer sold that ear to them when they became the big donors. This is a juggling game people. He has some people who want gruden and he has some that want Miles. Gruden knows he is probably still in play. He is interested if the money is right. He would shoot it down if money didn’t matter and he wasn’t gonna take the job.

Serious question: When your friends ask your opinion on who the next HC will be — Do you say Gruden or say someone else, but believe it will be Gruden?

Asking for a friend.

I say ... IDK, but I hope it is Gruden.

I'm an old guy and people think we are crazy anyway and I don't give a ratz azz anyway. Life is good.

Ok, just so we can over-analyze this MNF convo.

Keep context in mind. This was the first play from scrimmage in the 2nd half. Sideline reporter has just finished talking about how teams would respond after the gruesome injury. Sean also comments on the injury situation.

Jon doesn't comment on the injury stuff, but is instead watching the first play. His first comment is about Cam Sutton out of UT. Now it was relevant to mention him by name since he was replacing a cornerback presumably for the entire 2nd half. Also, ESPN put up a graphic essentially introducing Cam Sutton -- with his university listed. Then it seemed like Sean really wanted to bring up UT situation because he quickly says the "His alma mater needs a coach" right after Gruden says "They (referring to the Steelers) need a stop. So Sean is using a play on words here, but is referring back to UT while Jon had already tried to move on after mentioning Sutton.

However, Gruden does respond and says "Sure do. It'll hopefully be a matter of time." So Jon is stressing the importance of time here. He wants it (whatever it is) to happen soon. Then Jon goes on to say "It's been a long while since they've solve that". What is he referring to here? Is he talking about this particular coaching search? Or is he referencing the years since Fulmer was fired? Either way, it's another reference to time here by Gruden.

Now, Sean could leave the subject and go back to calling the game. Instead he purposely brings up the 'Gruden to UT' idea by saying "Well if you had just answered the call you could've saved them an awful (puts emphasis on awful) lot of time there on Rocky Top.

Notice he said "the call". This doesn't have to be a phone call... Maybe it's the call from fans or from the media. So Sean is either serious or completely trolling here. However, it is interesting that he wanted to emphasize UT has had an awful lot of trouble. Again, not sure if he means this coaching search or the post-Fulmer years, but he is aware at least that UT football program has been through a lot lately.

WTF are you talking about?

I don't know anything. I was watching the game and recognized the moment everyone was waiting for.

My reply was to squints for his suck ass holier than thou comment about those of us whonrely on you or others for info.

Since you replied instead of him let me break it down for you.

You previously (and maybe currently) have been privvy to info. You said yourself you dont share all that you hear. My question was simple: Is this somethingbyou were waiting on? You answered. That is all. No need to get assed up yourself over it.

Majority of us are out of the loop. I had an honest question. Squints decided to play Boro spokesman.

How do we know the tip to "watch MNF" didnt come from someone who knows Sean?

I read a pc where Sean said he knew Jon and he wont coach at UT.

Maybe his plan was to kinda poke the bear with a straight up question about Gruden and coaching at UT hoping to show everybody how much nonsense the notion is....but it didnt work out that way. Jon didnt deny it at all.

All I know is...Gruden or not, I like the people in this thread far better than the miserable prix in the other threads

Coach you are right. I've said the same thing in here on a couple occasions. Gruden or not I'm here lurking and posting and having a Grude time

I understand....no harm, no foul.

It's funny...I'm damned when I know something, and damned when I don't.

Sean: His alma mater needs a coach.

Jon: They sure do.

Sean: The University of Tennessee

Jon: Hopefully it will be a matter of time. It’s been a long while since they’ve solved that.

Sean: Yes. Well, if you had just answered the call and said yes, you could’ve solved them an awful lot of trouble on Rocky Top.

It was pretty noncommittal either way. He had a perfect opportunity to just say that he really wasn’t interested in the position. He didn’t. “Hopefully it will be a matter of time” was an interesting statement.

It’s pretty simple. Gruden didn’t want to go there tonight and never discussed it with his partner. His partner was calling him out and he didnt bite and moved on. Gruden is keeping his options open. Like he said never say never. He might want a God awful lot of money that he isn’t sure if Fulmer can round up from the donors. I’m sure that is part of Fulmers job right now. I’m sure if he wants to pay 8 mil he has to have a bunch of donors on the hook. If he wants to pay 10 for Gruden he had better have some of the big money guys backing the decision. Fulmer and Gruden are both juggling!

Not to be funny smokey but reading the end of your post made me think why not just settle on 9 mil and be done with the negotiating and get those recruits in here ...

Guys, maybe we called at halftime and he was on the ****ter and couldn’t talk. By the time he was done, the second half was about to start.

“If you’d only answer the call”

Kevin Steele sadly.

If we hire Steele over Leach/Brohm/Miles then I am breaking stuff and will continue to have no faith in the UTAD. Steele was a terrible HC and has not shown me anything to believe he'd suddenly be good at it. I'd take him as DC though. Lol
