Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVIII

Here's the whole convo that just occurred on MNF:

Jon -- There's Cameron Sutton in coverage; Cameron Sutton out of the University of Tennessee replacing blah blah who is stuggling -- There's Sutton a 3rd round pick.

Long pause

Jon: They (Steelers) need a stop
Sean: His Alma Mater needs a coach
Jon: Sure do
Sean: University of Tennessee
Jon: Hopefully be a matter of time; Been a long while since they've solved that
Sean: Yes. (Next play starts) Well if you had just answered the call, you could've saved them an awful lot of trouble there on Rocky Top.

Sean goes on to finish the next play call and brings up Mixon's injury causing depth problems at RB, so would've been awkward for Jon to interject and say anything else about UT.

I’ll be thrilled if he comes but I’ve lost all hope

I’ll say this though

It’s got to be the most college football references ever on mnf

My GrudeOn is getting stretch marks after that 😎💁🏻*♂️🤦🏻*♂️

Somebody rewind it and video it and post it

I had to go back and quote it considering how many people butchered what was said.

Sutton mention then:

Sean says "his alma mater needs a coach"

JG - "sure do, hopefully be a matter of time" "been a long while since they've solved that"

Sean - "well if you would've just answered the call and said yes you could've saved them an awful lot of trouble there at Rocky Top" immediately goes into play by play with Dalton - then starts talking about Mixon and concussion.

There wasn't an awkward silence...about 15 sec of Sean talking literally immediately after "Rocky Top".

SIAP

Sean: "His alma mater (sutton) needs a coach"
Gruden: "Sure do" ... "Hopefully be a matter of time. Been a long while since they've solved that."
Sean: "Yes. Well if you had just answered the phone and said yes you could have saved them an awful lot of trouble.. there at Rocky Top."
Then discussed Mixon.

DVR for exact quotes. That was entire conversation.

Edit: Gruden definitely seemed awkward in answering.

JG clearly uncomfortable and did not want to talk about it. Good? Bad? Indifferent? Who knows....

Maybe I misinterpreted, but when asked about the possibility of becoming the HC of the Giants, he actually did respond and said something that in so many words denied that would happen. Why would he speak about the Giants and totally ignore the UT reference? Personally, I think he is playing us, but he never shuts the door on this - ever.

Who knows what it all means.

I will say this has been a weird game with all the coach talk.

McDonough after coming back from half saying "Here with Jon Gruden, and were glad to have ya." or something of the sort..

Just a totally different vibe tonight.

In my own opinion the NY Giants job makes a lot of sense for Gruden. That team is loaded on both sides of the ball and Eli is still a 2x SB winner with some years left.

But with that said...

GRUDEN TO THE HILL!

I don't know how to interpret that. My gid man say something if it was a no surely he would say no but not saying anything?

Talking about Cam Sutton, from Tennessee, blah blah blah...

McDonough: Tennessee needs a coach!
Gruden: They certainly do! Hopefully, it'll only be a matter of time. It's been awhile since they've had one!
McDonough: Well, if only you would've answered the phone when they called, they'd already have one.

Play starts, McDonough calls it, and they don't go back to UT talk. That's all a paraphrase, not direct quotes BTW.

Oops my bad. Went back and listened for the third time and you are right. “If you would have just answered the call and said yes....” I was so dang nervous I think I was just hearing part of it.

The good thing is Sean seemed to go somewhere where Gruden didn’t want to go.
