Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVIII

Swain and Ainge weren't at work and allegedly the coach will be picked tomorrow. Any chance Fulmer gave them the chance to break the story first

Possible? I think Grude would get that choice? Or maybe even ESPN,"we agree to this, if we get first dibs on running story."??? Seems more likely.

Yes. Peyton into college football hall of fame tomorrow night. Dining tonight. Lots of head coaches will be in attendance. Not bad timing

Well I heard people asking where Fulmer was and text a friend that works AD (low level) and said dinner with the manning in New York...and said won't have coach hired until after tommorow. Doesn't have a clue of who it might be but has some pretty funny stories about Johnny Majors coming to the Athletic Department...Gruden Sooooon Btw!

I have a family friend that works for the Gruden camp. He speaks with Jon everyday and has been speaking with the Tenn camp as well.
As most of you know, Tennessee and Gruden were very close to a deal around Thanksgiving, but Gruden could not stand Currie and this caused the whole thing to fall through.
Fast Forward to now: I just spoke with my source who said now that Currie is gone Tennessee has reached back out to Gruden. He is the #1 choice for the job and Les Miles is #2. He said that Tenn informally offered a contract to Miles (Basically like Schaino's contract, not good until Tennessee actually signs it). If Gruden falls through, Tennessee will sign on the dotted line and secure Miles.
Edit: I'll try to answer any questions you guys have. I should disclose that I'm not a Tennessee fan or even a CFB fan. I can try to provide any proof short of my sources actual name. He is typically the 3rd person on Grudens side of the table in any negotiations (Gruden, His Agent, My Source).
Edit 2: I am going to keep providing random details I know of. Tennessee fans might find them useful even if they don't directly involve Gruden. Saturday night my source had dinner in Tampa with Jimmy and Bob Haslam, the topic of discussion was mostly Tennessee AD politics. Basically Jimmy Haslam was saying he and Fulmer are not the best of friends and that he has been cut out of the coaching search for the most part (after leading it before). Haslam ultimately wants my source to do work with him for the Browns organization next year. Haslam believed Saturday night that Les Miles was still the front runner for the job. I talk to my source Sunday morning and he's like "yea Jon has moved on and just wants to focus on the Rowdies deal" (Tampa soccer team he has partial ownership in). I talk to my source today and hes like: "were back on, I just talked to the associate AD (He knows this person personally and used their real name) and they want Jon. Jon #1 choice... They have Miles if they want."
Edit 3: I will work on getting a picture of my source with Gruden and send it to a mod. This person is the childhood best friend of my father and lives in Tampa, I live in NC and haven't seen him in 15-20 years. So a picture with me and him is out of the question, and if I get a picture of he and Gruden together that could just be any picture off google right? Leaving work will be back in 30.
Edit 4: Guys I am working on getting verification to u/weazelbear so standby. If I had to guess you guys have a 50-50 shot to land Gruden (the other 50 being Miles).

Edit 5: Guys I have PMed your mod about the verification. I am not able to get a picture of my source with Gruden tonight as he didn't have any on his phone. He actually offered to speak with u/weazelbear on the phone to provide any verification LOL. My source is the one who has been asking me to get the news out there that Gruden is still in play to put the media/fan-base in frenzy and in turn put pressure on Tenn for their negotiations. Even though my source clearly has a financial incentive to get a deal done between Tenn and Gruden, I stand by everything I have said in these rumor threads 100%. All the details I gave about the meetings/negotiations and Tennessee interest is 100% rock solid. The only possible thing that I believe my source could be exaggerating is Gruden's interest in the job still. Remember Gruden went from 100% on board to royally pissed off after the Currie meeting in late November. Gruden doesn't need this and isn't going to be anyone's ***** if he takes the job. This is the last edit for tonight, I am going to watch Gruden call MNF for my Steelers. I will setup the phone call with weazelbear if he wants.

Edit 6: LAST EDIT TONIGHT FOR REAL. So I just called my guy to tell him not to expect a call from the subreddit mod and he gave me 1 more nugget for tonight. He said he just got a call from Tennessee saying they have tendered an offer to Les Miles that is not official yet. This was essentially a threat to let the Gruden camp know the clock is ticking, but the only reason they are even calling is because Gruden is still their #1 choice. If something doesn't happen very soon (tomorrow) with Gruden I think Les Miles will be your guy. I know only a % of you still believe me and that is completely understandable. I am off to watch MNF.

Gruden seems chipper tonight. Last week he wasn’t himself. He didn’t have his usual fire. Probably wishful thinking, but I’m convinced.

I bet we've got him and he's excited about coaching the Big Orange. It sure ain't because he's in Cincinnati.

Ya think?

What I want to know is once Gruden is announced does Currie still get to take credit?

Yep... IF he stayed on board. And didn't throw in with the Haslams.... But he did. See Greg Schiano..... A Haslam buddy.

Wasn't that one of the stipulations tossed out that the slurpers kept reminding us of...that Currie got to take credit.

You don't know how much control the Haslams have tried to exert (and finally failed at, thank god) over the last 10 years do you?
