You can’t afford to be safe and reliable when lagging behind your competition. Closing the gap will take vision, boldness, and innovation. I hope UT considers this when weighing a Les Miles hire. He is the safest of all potential candidates. He has experience and accomplishments. He’s familiar with our conference. He’s a strong recruiter. He has beaten Saban. He’s kissed trophies. He may even bring along our favorite VFLs. But as we’re all safe and warm, group-hugging around our 1998 championship trophy, the gap between us and our competitors will grow wider. UT’s legacy demands better.

If ever there was a time to throw caution to the wind, it’s now.

“On Monday evening, former quarterback Peyton Manning is hosting a dinner with many key Tennessee people. Noted boosters the Haslam's, Charlie Anderson, Larry Pratt, and others are scheduled to be in attendance. As is Fulmer and Duke head coach David Cutcliffe. The group could make for an interesting evening for sure given the personalities scheduled to be there.”

Afternoon update from VQ mods.

Anybody else want to be a fly on the wall with Fulmer and Haslam in the same room?

The masses inside the gruden thread or outside?

Inside the Gruden thread but said coach has been mentioned here

As long as it's not Morris or steele I'll be alright....

Steele will be a part of it I think in the end

If it's one of those I'll be pissed at Fulmer for ruining the Leach hire.

Why? He made it to 9 got beat like a stray cat and hasn’t been there since. Butch 2.0 with a better offense.

Do any of the names listed, outside of Gruden or a rejuvenated Miles, strike you as individuals that will make Saban take notice? I don't see any mid-major two-year HC, or any coordinator becoming a difference maker in the conference or against Bama. That is what I'm looking for...if not we should have kept Butch, or shuttered the program.

Like him or not, I believe Leach would have made the SEC take notice.

Plus...I really wanted to be a pirate on the TN river.

Do any of the names, outside of Gruden, Miles and a few others, sound like something Fulmer would come up with knowing he has one shot at this?

Bottom of the 9th, down by 3, bases loaded, full count. He knows he has to knock it out of the park.
