Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVIII

If I could get anybody’s opinion:

1) has PM been involved with the JG deal?
2) if not, has PM alignment w/Haslam made the JG deal harder for us to get done?(JG has less interest without PM involvement)

I’ll hang up and listen for your thoughts....

No need to post this 3 separate times. Someone will answer you if they want or they won't.

I sure wish PF and co would entertain Kiffin! Yeah he left us in the middle of the night. He knows he screwed up! Most have forgiven him! UT football needs to be fun again. Give him a extreamly strict contract with a very low buyout. I think he would take it. He would have a great staff. I think PF could control him and quite frankly enjoy having him here! It would be the ultimate middle finger to the Haslams!!!!! Just DO IT already...before someone else snags him...

It goes beyond leaving us. Kiffin left a bunch of messes for the University, and frankly Phil simply doesn't like him. Culturally it's not something he would bring in house again.

“On Monday evening, former quarterback Peyton Manning is hosting a dinner with many key Tennessee people. Noted boosters the Haslam's, Charlie Anderson, Larry Pratt, and others are scheduled to be in attendance. As is Fulmer and Duke head coach David Cutcliffe. The group could make for an interesting evening for sure given the personalities scheduled to be there.”

I'm not sure if it was mentioned but I did think it was interesting that Herbie really backed off of his Tennessee bashing on Dan Patrick this morning...maybe some of the media decided they didn't give us a fair shake....

No Herbie woke up and realized where he lives.

I just dont understand the whole Gruden mess. If he wants the job...then lay out your demands and lets meet them! If not....go public and let the fans off the hook gently! He has only had 5 years to mull this over....it cant be that hard of a decision!!

I feel ya, bigmac.
Jon Gruden seems like such a polite fella, and he was polite enough with us the last couple of times this has happened, to let us down easy.
This time, none of that. His silence means a lot more this time, then even a denial did last time (see: Saban to 'Bama)

1) Don't know....nobody does.
2) my disappointment over Gruden would be short lived, replaced quickly by excitement over hiring the most qualified individual we had publicly shown interest in. Miles hits all of my tick marks....good recruiter, SEC experience, beat Saban, beat Florida, winning record, SEC Championships, National Championship. What's not to like?
3) I don't know about the staff, but it would excited me to see Tee back, and Kevin Steele would be a coup. Not sure how many others would come, but those two combined with Phil would be enough Orange blood to re-instill some pride and Tennessee values back into our depleted program.
agreed.

I wonder if that’s where Ainge and Swain are?

Don’t love this

I think Fulmer has a subconscious desire to see Miles land another coaching job. The parallels between Miles/LSU and Fulmer/UT are striking. Both very successful championship coaches unceremoniously fired and then not wanted by any other big name programs. Fulmer always knew that he had more left in the tank if only given the chance. He would probably like to prove that through Miles.

Hopefully he will override those tendencies in order to see a top 5 recruiting class, instant national recognition, and 100,000 at the spring game. Gruden is the only coach that wins the short term battle, and it's guaranteed. There are no guarantees with any coach's long term success.

I am NOT sure that he wants the job. I wish he would say one way or another so too.

Here’s why I’m getting aggravated day by day...

We were one of the first teams to fire our coach during the season....

Meanwhile, Florida got a solid, stable hire

Texas A&M didn’t waste any time locking down who they wanted

UCLA did what they needed to do almost overnight

Miss St got a coach quickly

Nebraska got their guy

Auburn locked down Gus, Arky seems to want Norvell quickly

FSU is moving quickly on their top target

All to say, here we are almost a month after firing jones and we are still twiddling our thumbs....

If the powers that be at UT really wanted Gruden, why on God’s beautiful earth are we STILL waiting?! Announce the crap already and start locking down 5 stars

If it ain’t Gruden, someone of significance needs to freaking say something

Don't you get it? UT's coaching search involves: Venture Capitalists, The Illuminati, and any other thing you can think of that has NOTHING to do with hiring a football coach. All of that is necessary for UT to hire a football coach. :thud:

Exactly! Just deny it and get everyone off your back!! Then if for some crazy reason the deal gets done...its a total shocker!!!

I bought two of your t’s Today going to Miami,
Go ahead and plan two of each of the others.
For volnation a tsunami wave celebrating the big orange uprising?
How bout Gruden time in Tennessee
With a pic of Chucky in a power Tshirt

I’m not an artist so I trust you... I’m just in.
I hope you sell a boatload

As one who has been in the retail business a long time you need to run anything Tennessee related by Mike Keener. UT is very strict on Trademark infringements. I just dont want you to get caught in a bind. Good Luck.
