Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVIII

I think everyone needs to chill and be patient. A few thoughts:

1. Quote by goinuponatuesday at 10:09 am on 11/26/17 (Schianomo day):

Off record I told a handful of people that Sunday leaks, Monday goodbyes, Tuesday hi's...... those few people are on volnation. Speak up if your on this morning....

Hence, the original plan, if you believe Gruden was on board, was leaks last Sunday, he says goodbye on MNF, then presser on Tuesday. Obviously Currie blew this plan all to hell.

2. Nobody knows anything right now:

There has been radio silence, or admissions that they don't know anything, from anyone who would know anything and who has any level of trust on here. Does everyone forget that the one guy who is universally accepted to be the most connected guy on here, Atlanta Vol, hasn't been heard from since the Schianamo began? He also told us a long time ago that he would never break the news on here that Gruden was our next coach. He did insinuate, however, that he would tell us if it fell through. Silence is not a bad thing.

3. If Gruden had planned to say a public farewell on MNF last week, then that had to have been already planned for with at least someone at ESPN (producers, etc.). If he is in fact giving UT a final answer today, then he could very well go back to the original plan for tonight's broadcast. In the alternative, he could publicly address the Grumors and squash them tonight if he has changed his mind.

4. The key question is, if he accepts our "new" offer, how the original plan is handled regarding leaks. Because this whole idea was so cloak and daggar, and laughed off by so many in the media, the leaks were obviously planned in order to prime the world for the idea that it really could be possible. Hence the 10:00 am CBS story last Sunday. Had the Schianamo not occurred, I'm sure we would have has something juicier come out later that day pointing toward it actually being real.

If Gruden says yes, and he still wants this to happen, we should hear something in the media soon. Or he could have changed his mind about the leak process and just drop a bomb out of nowhere on MNF.

Either way, we're nearing the end of this journey. Everyone breathe a little and resist being blown about by little gusts of wind from any direction. We were part of a ReVOLution last week, and regardless of what happens from here on out, our beloved University and football program is back in good hands.

We will know something for certain SOON...

Another killer post from Jawja Vol....you sure this isn't Atlanta Incognito?

This Thornton info about Gruden has not been confirmed by anyone with e-cred that we know of ... someone just strolled in dropped that bomb and basically got ran off. That info is nowhere else and I have not seen nor heard anything close to that.

Well, I trust Sara & she said she talked to his son over the weekend.

You throwing **** and hoping it sticks or being legit?

You've got me confused with deerhunter😁 Buuut the vol gods are watching over us!...

Edit:if it does happen i will not be considered a insider nor will I take credit for dropping the possible nuke 😁

I don't agree. Someone like Miles or Cutcliffe would be a safe hire relatively speaking.

Morris is risky but I don't think he's legitimately a contender.

So, I'm more basing that on the difference between a coach that has recently won a national title and more than 73% of his games and one that hasn't coached in a decade. From a risk/reward perspective Miles is the safe hire and Gruden is the risky hire. Personally, I acknowledge there is a high risk high reward factor with Gruden and I accept that. I'm all in. I just don't think Fulmer will be as willing to accept that risk given everything we've been through the past decade. Moreover, the big barriers I see with Fulmer hiring Gruden are his salary requirements and control.

If Miles were 10 years younger with those credentials he would be the grand slam hire.

Everybody has a opinion. If it's between Miles and Gruden and he can get either one and he hires Miles because it is safer than Gruden it will be another PR nightmare. I just don't buy that, it could be true but I am not buying that at this point at all. Not saying I wouldn't be behind Miles, but if Gruden is attainable and we chose not to hire him nothing makes this good in my eyes. I don't believe Fulmer is thinking like that, and I hope I never here that was the case. That is my opinion. Nobody has ever squashed these rumors, if there wasn't nothing to them and they let it ride it was a horrible PR decision. I don't believe they would ever turn Gruden down if he wanted it and if they did, it would take a lot for people to forgive. Now if we tried and it comes out, that is a totally different story. I am going to remain confident until something is official one way or the other. SOON! WE WANT GRUDEN TO THE HILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me either. But I'm here with you and everyone else and we're all in till we ain't!

i hope somehow freak provides us a place away from the insanity and rudeness of the FF. this thread is different, and much more enjoyable.

not protesting freak or anything ... not gonna "tennessee" volnation ... but the FF is not fun, and hasn't been for a long time. buncha ... not enjoyable people out there. if we're relegated back to the FF, then i'm not gonna be here much, just occasional lurking.

that's prolly just me tho.

You gotta admit, Fulmer would look like and be a BOSS if Gruden is our next coach.... Everyone would have to admit the vols are back if this happens .

I hope you are right but as a coach this was the same guy that would punt on 4th and 2 at the opponents 40 yard line.

I no nothin and I think it will be Miles. Watch the press conference again and see what Phillip said he wanted.

.

Exactly. This 100%. If we all recall back many threads ago Atlanta Vol said something along the lines of “you can’t just throw money at someone and expect them to come.” It sounds as if UT and our boosters have prepared a Saban like deal. If he ultimately says no, then no reason to jump off a cliff. The vols are in a much better position than they were on “Nuclear Sunday”. I want Gruden just like the rest of you. My chattanooga people have gone completely silent. Hopefully we hear good news.

Isn’t Beav a “Chattanooga person”

Whoever gets the job has to understand the expectation is that UT is returned to glory. That Tennessee wins the SECE regularly and the SEC as well. Throw in a playoff here and there. If he is here 10 years, I would think that at least 6 East titles and 4 SEC titles would be a lofty, but reachable goal.
Too high for you? Then don't take the job.

so what would a les miles staff look like?
miles - hc
oc - tee
qb - sanders?
rb - gillespie? graham? other?
wr - ?
oline - ?
dc - steele? chavis?
lb - jones? other?
db's - keep warren? other?
special teams?
new 10th coach?

get back coach - al wilson
vfl coordinator - inky

does the guy from lsu that is the general manager come back to ut for miles?

what are we looking at here?
thoughts?

(please don't make me go to the FF to discuss this.)
:)

Just another average staff to me

Probably not. I'm satisfied that we have bent over backwards to provide everything within our power to entice him here. The timing was right, the money reportedly absurd, the staffing allowance historic in scope. If none of that lures him, it's on him. And that's ok....I came into this wanting us to TRY, to swing for the fences for once. There is evidence we are doing that.

Personally I believe we'll know, yes or no, tomorrow....just my opinion. I don't think writing Bev would influence anything but her blood pressure.

boro, in your opinion, if it's nogo for gruden:
1) is it miles all the way? it seems like it.
2) how you feel about that?
3) how orange will the staff be, beyond oc and dc?

thanks, and i'll hang up and listen.
