Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVIII

Fulmer would love to be known as one of the best coaches and ADs in UT history. I believe for Fulmer, hiring the best possible coach to lead us to championships would give him a sh*t eating grin a mile wide.

PF bronze statue going up next year.

And before we get started, a public service announcement...

This is not just a thread about Gruden. It encompasses all things coaching search related and is an awesome conduit to pass on information along those lines. For those that feel the need to step in and say "Why are these threads still going?/You people are stupid!/Please just let this die!" please refrain.

It's very simple. If you can't read about a page and see what's going on, please leave without comment. It does you no good to say such things without knowing the depth of what we discuss in here. It's like 70% OT, 15% Alcohol, 5% Coaching Search, 5% poking fun at each other and 5% Gruden.

Kindly read before posting and enjoy the ride.

Cheers.
Hey, at least you spelled Gruden right! :)

Couldn't agree more but additional meaningful bowl games would be a nice byproduct.

Honestly, ditch about 30 bowl games and be done with it. Then you could have the 8 team playoff and have a true, settled on the field champion.

Downside is the kids playing 14 or more games.

If it all has been done, we are just waiting for the announcement. I think it would be done on Gruden's timetable rather than ours. Which hurts early signing. And we would have to keep on with the facade of interviewing other candidates. Basically a Fulmer roadie.

Read that again. It doesn't make sense. Gruden's timetable, if he wants this job, is to come in ASAP and get recruiting. Why waste 3 or 4 days when he doesn't have said luxury now?

Longer there is no word.. The closer it seems the word is YES

I would say the opposite, to be honest. Today is Monday Night Football. If we're being honest with ourselves, there's no reason they shouldn't be meeting tomorrow to determine if this is actually going to happen, and once you have a definitive answer, you make it official. I think we will know by Wednesday either way. In fact, I'd say it's likely we have a coach by then, whether it's Gruden or a disappointment.

I wonder if Haslam wants him in Cleveland. Gruden is an Ohio native. Hue will be fired in a few weeks.

Haslam can want all he wants, Gruden would come here before he went there. No good coach is touching that job while Haslam is owner. Those poor fans.

Two names to keep in mind as the #Tennessee coaching has re-set: #Clemson DC Brent Venables & #SMU head coach Chad Morris. Folks close to Phil Fulmer are big believers in them.

Venables! Bout dang time he got thrown in the mix.

The way schedules are now, I'd be ok with cutting a week or two of regular season for a more meaningful post season. Cut out the Bama vs Mercer weeks.

Maybe he wants to keep his commitment to MNF? I do not know. And, as a fan, I want to know one way or the other. The unknown is frustrating.

Well, this is interesting because we are hearing Miles is a done deal or close to a done deal, we have also heard Tee and Steele, by some...and Feldman isn't even mentioning those, instead saying Morris and Venables.

Didnt take it that way. Just "also, dont forget these names".

If we had not fought them off you would of had Schiano.

Every Vol fan should remember this.

To borrow a bit from Lt. Colonel William B. Travis.

"We were besieged, by a thousand or more of the Haslamites under Jimmy. We have sustained a continual bombardment & cannonade for nigh on a decade & have not lost a man. The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion. We have answered the demand with cannon and shot. Our flag still waves proudly from Neyland. We shall never surrender or retreat."

Remember the Schianomo!

Not sure Jimmy will be owning the team much longer if the FBI keeps going.

Agreed. You can cycle coach after coach through there with the same results and not start to realize there are other issues. Cleveland is broken from the top down.

I believe this to be the closest to the truth. The posters who seem to have the closest ties to "inside" information have not wavered. Therefore, I shall not waver.

Gruden to the HILL!!!
