Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVII

Found the article from a week or two ago.

It was a private foundation that bought the house from the Sabans (while allowing them to continue to live in it for the rest of their lives, even beyond retirement if they wish).

The foundation paid off the taxes owed this year by the Sabans, but will not have to pay any property taxes in the future, as they are a non-profit organization.

Nick Saban sold home to Crimson Tide Foundation for $3.1 million in 2013 | AL.com

So the meager salary Saban's getting means it's a stretch for him to pay property taxes I assume ? :)

So sounds from that article like iamadoc was closest to was right: that sounds like boosters are behind the organization.

Thanks for posting the article. What a way to sweeten the deal!

Any more news on his attempt to hold UT to buyout money or a possible defimation lawsuit.

I don't know about the buyout as it pertains to the MOU, but the defamation angle is a non starter, in my opinion. The university had nothing to do with the outcry in regards to tge accusations.

I could see him talking about Les and thinking it’s a good thing. I’d be surprised if he’s talking about Gruden because there has been little news on that front other than a future meeting.

There was little news before sunday. Yet all week the info piured out about other guys. You dont publicly talk about the girl you crush on for fear of running her off.

But its ok! Some want to believe some dont.

We live rent free in everyone's head.

You know what I think pisses them off? We stood up for ourselves.

Never ever never has a fanbase said, we are tired of mediocrity.

Nebraska fans haven't stood up.

Do you think Michigan fans would have if Harbaugh hadn't been the hire? No, they would have taken it.

Florida fans wouldn't do it. I still think they settled with Mullen. He will be good with a flash of great every now and then but that's about it.

Tennessee people are a strong, independent lot for the most part. We support the school and team, to the point of being the most profitable school in the SEC, even though we gave been at one of our lowest points in history.

It's different being a vol fan. It's almost a birthright.

Like I said, if they screw this hire up I just won't watch but I could NEVER cheer for another team. It's in my DNA...

This all day long.

I don't the a defamation suit is going to hold water, he's a public figure and any information 'used' as an excuse not to hire him was public record. If there was any kind of contractual obligation duly signed by the University, meaning legally signed by all parties, were in effect, that's a different story - breach of contract. But I don't think that was the case either. There may have been a MOU, but I'm not sure that was duly signed and even if it was, I'm still not sure it would hold up as a contract. I'm not a lawyer, there are some here, perhaps they can shed some light on this.

IMO. Coach Fulmer is going to call and discuss the job with several good coaches. Is Gruden one of them? I don't know, I hope. The Les/Tee deal is an excellent secondary plan. Currie is an inept idiot.

All the news today is schiano and his connections to the case and who is saying that he was fully aware. Even ****knobs like Dan Wolken are distancing themselves from him.

This only works if it is used for official university business, otherwise property taxes will have to be paid.

BTW, David, universities often have on-campus housing for staff and faculty, the chancellor, deans, etc. Not to mention students. And I think all of that is "official university business." So not sure why a house provided for the head coach wouldn't be the same.

In fact, when I was at West Point in the age of the dinosaurs, I remember our head coach having a house right on post, just across a lake (Lusk Reservoir) from Michie Stadium. And that was military property. If it can be done there, as "official business," it can be done anywhere. :)

You should see the rest of their odds list. Last time I checked Brohm, Morris, and Dave Clawson were tied for 3rd behind Taggert who is overwhelming favorite.

Ita funny to me how FSU is supposed to be a much better job, but their candidates look pretty similar to ours. I expect us to land a better coach than Taggart.

I just hope we get some information today. I am having surgery tomorrow and will not be able to stay tuned to any news. So Murphy's Law states that the new coach will be announced and I will not know a damn thing. And if I do hear anything i may think it is the meds talking.

Best wishes for a successful surgery, Eric.

Just went outside the thread. Entered a room of "names I never wanted to hear again"

Gruden and Gundy were the names.

Dropped a quick Gruden to the Hill and left.

He will be lucky to keep his position at Ohio State at this point. If I had to bet, I'd say his days there are numbered.
