Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVII

I've got it.

Side by side businesses. Hangover Hell, that is Ape's business. It is where people go to get flattened.

Right next door is Hangover Heaven. It's there for recovery. Then when people feel back to normal, they walk right back to Ape's place...circle of intoxication.

Ape...if you had 1/2 ownership of Hangover Heaven, you would kill it. You and Freak could compare yachts.

For those hung over there is a product called Liquid IV that I hears works wonders. I think it can be bought at most drugstores. I’m pretty I was the only sober one on last night! Someone had to keep all the pot needles out

Wait...wut?

From OldVol74 on VQ.. interesting post

"Apply a little logic here people.

You have a rabid fan base clamoring for a particular guy to be your head coach. Not just your everyday, garden variety clamoring, but pandemonium clamoring. Desire, that were it not to be followed through on, would likely derail your entire strategy for anyone else you pursue. So, you make the obligatory run at the guy and leak that he said thanks, but no thanks. Maybe you even ask the guy to make a throw away comment on his MNF broadcast.

Rumors are put to rest and you move on to your legitimate target.

Now, here's what happened. A group of very influential boosters and former players worked the back channels. One booster has his name on the training center. Gruden was prepared to accept and was already putting together a staff. Currie, for the same reason as in 2012, to placate another big money booster, torpedoed it because he owed his job and, he felt, his security to the other Big Dog named Haslam.

Now, if you doubt this, and you buy the line that some of the company guys fed, that they met in Tampa and Gruden said no, then ask yourself this question; why was Gruden's exact details not leaked to certain cooperating media members like Schiano and Gundy's details were leaked, down to the dollar.

Why wasn't Mullen's detailed offer leaked?

For the same reason Gruden's numbers were never leaked by the media. There was never an official offer made to either Mullen or Gruden by the university. The only numbers you've heard from the Gruden deal were leaked by insiders.

The CBS leak Sunday Morning was a controlled leak by the boosters working on Gruden.

I'm not making this CBS report up, google it.

In the meantime, doing Jim's bidding, Currie makes an end run around the other boosters and springs Schiano on them. The Schiano leak was made by the other boosters who wanted Gruden. Never could they have imagined the outcry.

Now, if you believe the guy who painted the rock and a handful of vocals down at gate 21 got this thing torpedoed, then you may want to stay up late Christmas Eve and watch the fireplace. This was stopped by very influential people both on the booster side, who were infuriated because they had been backstabbed at the eleventh hour, and by politicians.

Now, would Gruden still accept? Who knows?

But anyone saying that the actions of the last 6 days wouldn't make any candidate step back because of all of the negative national media, then you're not being fair. If Gruden accepted now, he'd be burning every bridge with the media group he works for because they've spent the last 6 days saying what a bunch of losers we are.

Believe what you will. I've been around this program a long time and it’s been my privilege to meet a lot of very influential folks."

if the HoH has been sufficiently neutered as the coup suggests, it'll be about as meaningful as someone flipping you off in traffic. it won't matter if you (we) don't let it.

I think if we go with that thought we'd be underestimating our opponent.

I have no problem believing Jimmy Haslam is vindictive and his family's ties run deep and wide.

There is an old remedy held in the most secret tomes of the USMC Lance Corporal Undrground which has previously never been uttered above a whisper. I share it with you due to your sheer awesomeness and entertainment value during the night shift last night (which I believe you kicked off with 2 Live Crew lyrics-effing strong work ma’am):

Find the nearest corpsman for IV drip (rehydration), immediately take three shots of the most gutter @ss tequila you can find (retoxification), and partake in an eight mile run while calling cadence and getting screamed at by a pissed off Sgt until you toss the previous night’s sins on the ground via low altitude low opening gut purge.

You’re welcome Faceless and I have to give TennGirl a special shoutout for not letting the issue drop until she knew you were home safe and sound. We gotz good folks in this thread.

Thank you for your service and advice, sir. Lol.

Yes, Tenngirl is someone I’d love to buy a drink some time. I think one of my comments led people to believe I was out. I was in my bathroom the whole time. Woke up a couple hours later to my dog sniffin my face.

"I’m told that Coach Fulmer spoke with Cade last night. Cade is in West Tennessee hunting with Tanner A. I’ll try to catch up with him later.

Additionally I’m told coach Fulmer has taken the recruiting test and well I’m sure you all can connect the dots. He will have the capability of going out for the next little bit until Tennessee has a full staff.

Inserting an opinion with the addition of the 10th assistant, id hire a veteran coach that is good at teaching and not put him on the road and keep Phillip in that road option. I’m sure that won’t happen but would present different scenarios."

okay, maybe i'm reaching here, but ...............
if Director Fulmer really has to conduct a full and thorough search, how's he gonna have time to recruit?

just sayin' ...

Years ago on Gridscape, we had a poster who knew Philip well. He kept us somewhat informed about Phil's recruiting. He called Phil "The Great Fisherman" because he reeled in the recruits. Like Phil or not, you have to admit he could identify talent, particularly linemen, linebackers and running backs and he more often than not, got his man. Phil will do well recruiting and getting us the best coach available. The Great Fisherman trolling the seas again!

This is the first thread I’ve really ever followed closely👍🏻 I’m so glad TN fans stood up and decided we’re not going to accept mediocrity with another coaching hire and caused change👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Before all this happened I would have never believed that someone with power could really not want the absolute best possible coach for their university. I don’t know if everything said about Haslam and Currie is accurate but it sure seems the majority is. With that being said, does the change to Fulmer increase the chances for Gruden? I believe we will be somewhat happy with the choice he makes but the excitement with Gruden would be unreal especially if it happened today.
Congrats everyone on the forced change👏👏👏

I’ve got some VC funds...been looking to invest

Maybe Ape could be an owner without really having any day-to-day obligations. He would shine as the guy getting the patrons to drink more.

If he was in charge of the books...ehhhh...I think we want to actually hang on to the profits, so......

He already stole a jet and filled it with boxed wine. Decision making may not always be his strong suit.

Remember when he shows up in the movie The Blind Side? The rest of the coaches throw their hands up because they think the game is over before it begins.

Ape could be a silent partner. He would be the “face” of the operation.

That is the mark of a good dog. I was hopped up on DayQuil since A) I have the flu, B) my wife is out of town, and (most importantly ) C) I am theoretically in charge of our 4 children (all under 9).

I had a quick concern but realized all wasn’t well. You just have folks who got your back (and the pictures you posted)

Doesn't sound particularly hopeful.
