Thunder stated under previous BOT bio that Fulmer is one of his closest friends. I wasn't aware the tie was this personal.

You have to understand that some of these Boosters and UT staff have worked together for years. IE Haslam and Currie. Fulmer and Thunder. They do develop close personal ties.

What account?

I don't mean to be that guy, but out of respect for him, I do not want to say (There has to be a reason he was using someone else's account) But here is what he said:

It’s great, to be, a Tennessee Vol!!! I said, it’s great, to be, a Tennessee Vol!!!

Yes! We sure did it, didn’t we!?!? This is one of the greatest moments in the University of Tennessee’s History!

We WON the war!!!

We all deserve a big pat on the back because if it wasn’t for our commitment to this great University, I don’t think this would have ever happened! This was the fans doing! This was VolNations accomplishment and everyone deserves to be accredited; Coming from me personally, I would just like to say thank you to everyone on VolNation for rallying the troops and fighting for what we believe in!

With that said, I have enjoyed my time here and have enjoyed the discussions we’ve had. I hope I was able to shed some light on some things and I hope I was able to help aid in the cause. From this moment forward, I will not be commenting on the coaching search and I will be giving this account back to its owner. I have the utmost respect for Phillip Fulmer and hope everyone will get behind him and believe in him to do the best job possible. Phillip Fulmer is the greatest man I have ever known and he loves the University more than anyone, and I know, with all my heart, there’s truly no one better for the job.

Thank you all for letting me be a part of this!

Morning, MaTaLa. Know what you mean, my eyes have been sore by the end of the day for several evenings in a row now. :)

Probably a good idea to set the record straight on what was actually said in yesterday's press conference. To avoid misunderstandings like the one we've seen a few times already that Bev Davenport said something about wanting a coach with SEC experience. She didn't say that. She was actually talking about the AD position, not the head coach search, and while she said the SEC is a strong conference, she never said it had to be SEC experience the AD needed.

The full context is that the reporter was trying to question Fulmer serving as AD--since he does not have any prior experience as AD. And Bev's response highlighted that we also need someone who is deeply committed to the Vols...hinting that's maybe something Currie was missing, but Phil brings in spades.

...

Those kinds of "meaning morphs" and misunderstandings will grow legs unless corrected early.

So here are, verbatim, some of the key phrases uttered by Bev (and one by Phil) during the interview.

...

We can start with the three times Chancellor Davenport went out of her way to let us know she hears us:

Bev -- "I have heard from so many of the Vol Nation. And I appreciate what they have to say. They love this university."

Bev -- "Our supporters have been passionate. They've been vocal. But they've been steadfast in reminding us what makes this university and [its] athletics an exceptional program. And it's the people. I don't take that for granted. I have come to understand and appreciate the love that SO many people have for Tennessee athletics."

Bev -- "I want to take this opportunity again to thank the Vol Nation. For their support, and for their love of this great university. Please know that my goals, and our goals, are the same."

...

A Fulmer nugget, from the Q&A:

Phil -- "...Bunch of wonderful people, the staff here, I'll see the team in just a--the football team--in just a little bit...everybody wants to be champions here! Everybody wants to win. What we need is communication, and trust, and working together to make it happen, including our wonderful fan base."

...

And finally, that misunderstood line, which came right at the tail end of the presser:

Bev -- [when asked about her statement nine months earlier when Currie was hired, concerning the importance of UT getting a sitting Power 5 AD] "Experience matters, experience at programs like ours. I'll tell you--in nine months--the University of Tennessee is a special place. The SEC is one of the strongest conferences in the country, and what I meant then is what I still mean: we need experience, we need somebody who knows this work, and who is committed to the University of Tennessee."

I missed about 25 pages (50 posts/page) last night. Anything from Beav, Atlanta Vol, Knuck, saw where knuck said Gruden would get a call, “fact”. Anything else? I’m spending a weekend with my 2 closest friends, their families, and all of our kids in a big house and Id like to be able to talk with them while also knowing when to have my phone hitting refresh.

Also Grude Morning

I'm starting to believe the speculation that Currie was on the West Coast looking for a new landing spot for himself (as opposed to interviewing Leach to come to UT). And that it will form the upcoming basis for being fired with cause. We will see.

When we announce Gruden we need to bombard these national media morons who bashed this fan base as being crazy for what we did to poor Shiano, and the others. And tell them we were fed up with being spoon fed S*** for 10 years. It was time to rise up and be the TRUE caretakers of UT Football!!! Make their life a living hell via social media at least for a few days. Basking that we have great coaching staff and we gonna WTFA
