Official Jon Gruden Thread XLVI

The SEC being 85 years old, and Jon Gruden being only 54, I'm gonna counter with the suggestion that there definitely was an SEC when Gruden was here as a Graduate Assistant in the '80s. :)

Tennessee is a founding member of the SEC, a "plankowner" in Navy terms. Been a member since the very first day.

Perhaps you're thinking of the SEC championship game, which didn't start until '92 when the league was divided into East and West divisions?

That's what I meant.

That's what I meant.

Well then, we all agree that--even if Bev Davenport intended to make SEC coaching experience a criterion in selection of the new head coach, which I'm not at all certain she meant--Jon Gruden technically gets a check mark in that box. :good!:

My first game was the ‘90 game against Notre Dame. YouTube it! It wasn’t about the out come, it was about the experience, but it helped to know the Vols were a powerhouse going against a powerhouse! Neyland literally felt like an earthquake. Wasn’t the result I wanted but the memories i’ll never forget! Thank you D.J. for taking me! #GBO

I was there...the stadium was rocking felt like an earthquake was happening...just knew we were fixing to take down the #1 team in the nation....our younger volnation will soon get to experience what we had in the 90’s.....I’m all in on AD Fulmer and SOON!

Those of you who had info at one time, is there any chance whatsoever this is a possibility now with Haslam weakened and Fulmer now in charge? Or is it just a dream? I'm so ticked off at the media right now, last night was brutal they are laughing at us and pushing that stupid sabatoge angle on Fulmer.

That's a great listen, it really is.

The modern football player is the American gladiator. It's a sub-culture unto itself, a unique brotherhood. And it is good and right and heart-warming that the old warriors, the Al Wilsons and Jayson Swains and Fred Whites, keep a protective eye out for the younger generation.

That's one thing I heard, and appreciated.

The other thing I heard is the love these fellows have for Tennessee. One thing Al said that I never really thought of before--I mean, I'm sure I heard it at some point over the years, but it never struck me as capital-t Truth the way it did when Al said it in this interview--is that there are no bigger fans of our team than former members of the team. They are truly the biggest fans of all, because they've got so much more invested in it.

Anyway, thanks for finding and sharing that interview, Smokey. Really good to listen to. :salute:

Woke up this morning and first thought was..."damn, I wonder what AD Fulmer's and (SOON to be) HC Gruden's conversation sounded like last night?"...this morning definitely has a different feel about it compared to this past week.

I met Coach (AD) Fulmer years ago when I was on vacation. I had a power T hat on when the he came up to me and asked me where I was from. I told him where and he said it’s good to see that orange on. He saw the orange from a distance and came to me. I was shocked to finally meet him. He is as passionate as all of VolNation is. I know he will do what’s best for our program. I had a great day yesterday and look forward to the future of our football program. Gruden to the Hill!!!!!!

If AD Fulmer met with players yesterday did anyone come across audio? Thought I saw a pic posted of meeting.

You know Fulmer would love to stick it to the SEC Championship Game, by making a big freakin headline today.

We have all the pieces on the chess board in the right spot.

I’m sure it’s been discussed but just realized that gruden is saying he can’t say no when you never have an offer. Currie never contacted him.

Never say never to nothing.
