They basically just called out “higher ups” at UT on the Paul Finebaum show and talked about how bizarre it was to fire Currie after the Leach meeting. Finebaum said Currie shouldn’t be fully to blame...

There is no way Haslam allows Currie to be fired for cause. Currie would fight that, and expose Haslam’s role in the Schiano offer. If he is fired for cause Currie’s career is done. So either Currie resigns today allowing him to save face and save his career, or is fired for cause and UT has kicked both Haslam and Currie out of the “game”. Remember Gov Haslam’s claimed publicly that his brother had no role in the Schiano offer. It is impossible to believe that Haslam would leave Currie in the wind, especially after how apparent it is Haslam and Currie were in bed on the Schiano hire. Haslam and Currie are making a full press to discredit Fulmer to save face for Currie and allow him to retain credibility and be hiriable by other organizations. Again, I’d hedge bets Currie resigns and isn’t fired.

You are right! Can’t make this up! I feel like I was dropped down into a story of excitement and intrigue in October and I just can’t leave until I get the happy ending I’m after.:)

Perhaps he was given a list of options as thought Doeren was the best of what was available. That doesn't mean he would be Phil's #1 pick if it was his choice.
