Official Jon Gruden Thread XLV

Beaver, we are tired troops fighting solo against an unseen enemy with no proof other than a few vague statements. I believe the message you stand for appreciate your efforts, but until a leader emerges, someone with an actual name that means something to this university and fan base, to unite us and show us proof of who and what we are fighting, people will lose their way.

Truth^.... the troops need real motivation

Morning update from Hubbs

"We are hearing the rumors on Jeff Brohm. That is making its round in some coaching circles, but we have no confirmation on anything. But that rumor is out there, seems to be growing.

Others say Chad Morris is in it. Morris is definitely interested. Morris has a loose tie to Tennessee in former defensive line coach Dan Brooks.

Kevin Steele has significant ties to Tennessee as well.

Those are the three names we are circling around this morning"

Circling around the toilet bowl....

Personally it's to the point I wish these insiders would stop hiding behind thier sources and tell all ,so we can help in the change in a major way...phone calls and emails won't do the damage...pull the money start canceling things at once

No offense to anyone, but its safe to say no one really knows anything. Even if they do, their info could be incorrect by the time they finish posting it.

Its a message board. Post it if you got it. But believe it at your own risk.

I just got an email response from David Golden. Anyone else? Slightly generic, but it's more than I've been getting, which was nothing.

Received one as well. Mentioned the statements from Davenport and Currie in a way that led me to believe their words were supposed to appease my anger. They did not, actually fueled it a little more.

Side note: new member, first post. Happy to be part of the fight.

The next guy wont be any better guys . HIRE LANE KIFFIN NOW you GRUDEN folks have the loudest voice lets save TEnnessee football HIRE LANE KIFFIN NOW

No, man. No.

If Currie is fired because he can't get a coach to say yes to him, that's awesome. We'll start over with his successor.

But no to friggin' Lane Kiffin. Evar.

What if he hired Gruden or Petersen?

From what has been implied, at least one of those will not happen as long as Currie is here.
Currie is a cancer.
He is a complete and utter failure and shows it more each day.
He is a snake and a saboteur.
He does not have the University's best interest in mind.
He is going to put the final nail in the coffin of a team I have loved since childhood and a school I graduated from.

Call, email, protest. No holds barred. Scorched Earth.

Can someone explain why Gruden is any less of an option today than a week ago?

Did he tell us no?

Why are we even entertaining anyone else until this man, who has obviously dropped hints that he is interested, has been publicly offered and turned us down.

Being turned down by Gundy is embarrassing.
Being turned down by Gruden is not.

I agree that Gruden has not turned us down.

I do not believe Gruden will work under John Currie.

Curry is still AD.

Until or unless that changes, Gruden is a no-go.

I'd rather suffer another five years of disappointment than bring cancer onto our campus.

Ain't gonna happen, nor should it.

Glad you're not making the decision. I want to win and it appears he is the only one who would accept the job and be capable of winning.
If they trot out a Morris type I am through with Tenn football. We just went winless in the SEC, wrap your mind around that for a mi ute!

I look at the game that's likely going on as having legal implications if done wrong. Or you make enemies that can do you wrong. (Edit: hope the ones that leave leave quietly)
So, you can't show your hand. Our battle as fans is different. I'm trying to keep that in mind. Should these people tell a message board? Or keep it tight?

Who needs to speak up is Gruden. He continues to not! It's not kind and he's been kind in the past. He seems a very kind person. There's more to the story with him....
I wish I had a lot of money to put in, to have a say. All most can do is be vocal and send messages that involve the fattest cats losing $$!

For the life of me... I just cannot figure out why in the world Jon Gruden is being so silent. It would take 30 seconds of his time. I think that he has been gracious enough to us the times before, so why not now? I don't understand.

maybe he really does want it and its just not aligned yet...im just speaking from pure exhaustion lol

If they hire a Bing McGoogle or Northeastern South Dakota State Ned McFartweed, the many including this writer are done..me after 30 plus years..If it is someone who will be a "Hey let's just see what he can do" coach I am done. Without a proven winner..Scr&w them..No donation ..money on tix gear trips etc..Consumers have choices And 30 years has given me the right to choose my critical mass point..I am sure I am not alone

I would actually watch games featuring head coach Ned McFartweed, just for the entertainment value of listening to the announcers trying to keep it together. :)

I have slept on this, and here is where I am. At some point you have to look at things for what they are. Tennessee isn’t going to get a splash hire. I wanted Gruden as much as anyone else. Sadly, I believe we were played again. If they (the insiders) had any sort of proof, they would have shared it by now.

If we are going to take a risk, it might as well be with Chad Morris from SMU. After doing a little research, I actually like him.

He was a hot shot high school coach in Texas. Think of George Quarles on a much larger stage.

He was the OC at Clemson during the resurrection of the program under Dabo. They still use it today, and it seems to work out for them... minus the Clemson’ing once a year.

He took a gamble and became the head coach at SMU. You know the school that got the death penalty. Their record has gotten better each year. They are 7-5 this year. Dude is making chicken salad out of chicken crap.

He has recruiting ties in key states: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, and Louisiana. Guess when we were the best? When we recruited from those states.

If we are going to take a chance, he seems quite logical if you look at the big picture not just his record at SMU. He is currently reported as Texas A&M’s number 2, and if Jimbo leaves FSU, he is a strong possibility there. I would hate for us to miss out on someone who has potential. I couldn’t promise his success, but I couldn’t promise Gruden’s success either.

I used to say: It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!

Now I say: It's tough to be a Tennessee Vol.

We endured the blowout Georgia game. We endured further humiliation at the hands of Missouri, others and Vandy, no less. Meanwhile we were tortured by Butchisms but held on, knowing in our hearts that at the end of the season a new coach would come here, bringing with him hope and high expectations that this long nightmare would soon end. That was the hope expressed in all the Gruden threads, that helped us cope in our time of misery.

Then came the Currie/Schiano debacle of the weekend. All hopes were dashed but wait, VolNation rose up and said this will not stand and it didn't. Hope was renewed once again. . . until it became apparent that it was only a Pyrrhic victory.

The aftermath resulted in our beloved VolNation being dragged through the slime of our sports media. We were treated as a laughingstock, who did we think we were?

Now were are castigated by the press and rejected by potential candidates for football coach, who ordinarily would feel so lucky to have the opportunity to lead the Orange and White into Neyland through the T on a Saturday in the fall.

We have become the red headed stepchild of football. No one respects us and no one wants us.

And we still have the bozos in charge who allowed all of this to happen.

What the hell happened to us? Where do we go from here?

Another 10 years of football mediocrity, sliding into irrelevancy?

Who will save us from this sad and sorry fate?

I think all the long time participants in these threads know the answer.

Until then I mope and hope, contemplating boxing up all my Orange and White and storing it in the attic, waiting for the day when I will once again declare with pride in my voice:

I say, it's great, to be, a TENNESSEE VOL!

Someone needs to loop the first 30 seconds of Bloodhound Gangs Fire-Water-Burn and go all Say Anything with a boombox outside of the AD's offices.
