Official Jon Gruden Thread XLV

Can someone explain why Gruden is any less of an option today than a week ago?

Did he tell us no?

Why are we even entertaining anyone else until this man, who has obviously dropped hints that he is interested, has been publicly offered and turned us down.

Being turned down by Gundy is embarrassing.
Being turned down by Gruden is not.

There’s an elephant in the room that neither side wants to comment on. When the elephant isn’t around the two sides talk though.

Get rid of the elephant and the whale comes into play

Figure out the elephant

I would be surprised if any coach accepted a job offer from Currie at this point.

Beaver, we are tired troops fighting solo against an unseen enemy with no proof other than a few vague statements. I believe the message you stand for appreciate your efforts, but until a leader emerges, someone with an actual name that means something to this university and fan base, to unite us and show us proof of who and what we are fighting, people will lose their way.

Okay, since Monday I have sent 57 emails to DiPietro and the Media relations lady. Have not received one response. I never really expected to. I'm done. Until someone has some balls to go public with everything that has happened with Gruden/boosters/Haslam/Currie, there's nothing more I can do in this.

My entire family cancelled our season tickets, that we had for 40+ years, when they hired Dooley. Stopped donating too (it was only 5 figures, but it was something to us). My uncle that was an all-sec lineman has stopped donating and participating in anything UT related since Dooley as well. None of us have attended a game since Kiffin left.

I've had it. There really is no more my family and I can do to voice our displeasure. We've been doing it for 10 years.

Give us something concrete to support and get behind.

Again, someone needs to have the balls to go public.

I think what he’s saying is to keep up the emails and phone calls. If we let up any, then the AD will think we’re just going to give up on it and it’ll get back to normal in a week or two. They’ll ride out the storm. Let’s not let the storm end until we get what we want!

Last post, then I'm going to hang up and listen.

Good luck to all the Warriors that might be doing some epic internal battles at the University of Tennessee today. I know that something like this may take a couple of days/longer, but I don't doubt that there are obvious signs of a scuffle, that reached for just a little bit out into the public, but is mainly going on behind some walls.
So good luck everybody! If we settle for mediocrity this time, we could be doomed to it. These are important times!

I know Brohm is not the big name people want, but if it fell to him I believe he would do very well.

Went to grad school at Middle. I've seen his teams in person when he was at western ky. There are a couple of things that you all would like about him.

1. Great offensive mind. He developed two QB's Brandon Doughty who lit it up a couple of years ago and Mike White (who was terrible at USF) and led the nation in passing last year.

2. Confident and cocky. If hired he would be like our version of a younger Spurrier when he left Duke and went to UF.

3. Comes from a football family and good coaching lineage. He's part of the Petrino tree and when it's all said and done I believe he will have a better career than Petrino. I actually already think he is a better coach than Petrino.

So, TIFWIW.

It may be worse than that at this point.

At this point I am thinking we won't even get Butch .5

God let's hope not...

It's me, I already declared my man crush for showoff, and you're a pretty funny fellow and I need to have a better day so, entertain me while I watch at least, ok?

Dont think my brand of humor is permissible on vn at this dark time in UT history.

Personally it's to the point I wish these insiders would stop hiding behind thier sources and tell all ,so we can help in the change in a major way...phone calls and emails won't do the damage...pull the money start canceling things at once

Totally agree. This can’t be done by a few fans on a football forum, especially when we have zero proof of what we are protesting.

I’m really starting to think he’s Blackburn, lol.

I just got an email response from David Golden. Anyone else? Slightly generic, but it's more than I've been getting, which was nothing.

Beaver said the deal was done. It obviously wasn’t. His Twitter is now very desperate sounding.

Even before it turned desperate, he admitted his role was to raise our expectations to get “Gruden/Tier 1 coach”.

That’s a big difference from “white whales” and all the other crap he threw out there. He specifically pointed us to Gruden then admits it could have been someone other than Gruden.

So you’ve been lied to not only by John Currie, but Beaver.

His team, if there ever was one, is beaten.

I have wanted to stay on the bandwagon and will gladly eat crow if a miracle happens. But I no longer believe it was a true option. If Beav hadn’t said that slash part “Gruden / Tier 1 coach” I would be more apt to believe.

But he didn’t.

We’ve been chasing white whales in a barren ocean.

I still believe the only "insider" we actually have is AV.

Trust me I've been here on this board for a while and you would be surprised as to many legit insiders we have on her that lurk but don't post and if they do it's not often we have eyes and ears in here that's just facts

Dr. Davenport

Good afternoon…hope all is well and that you are enjoying the rigors of Tennessee football. Over the course of the past 30 plus years I have been loyal and faithful to Tennessee athletics. However, nothing compares to Tennessee football. My hard earned income goes for tickets, concessions, and even hundreds of dollars spent in the student store every trip. I want to be honest and up front. For the past 10 years spending my hard earned money has been difficult to say the least.

The state of Tennessee football has lowered my/our expectations of success. Now, as we journey down the road to change the fan base expectations I certainly hope that you are aware of those expectations. We have stood by and been forced to accept the decisions of the Tennessee AD in the hiring of head football coaches. THIS HAS LEAD US DOWN THE 10 YEARS OF MISERY. I like many others, have make the decision to put my foot down at this point and here’s my thought. If Jon Gruden is not hired I sincerely hope the documentation why is shared with the Vol Nation. If not my money will be spent at other venues.

Also, at this point I understand (and everyone else) that Currie has probably destroyed any hope in hiring a qualified head coach. We are the joke of the conversation being discussed on every national sports media show as we speak. Once again, it certainly does not appear any of the top tier coaches are available due to the interference of Tennessee’s top donor and booster and Mr. Currie. However, Jon Gruden is still available and on the market. Our stadium is the best and brightest in America bar none. I think the 300 plus million should be spent to hire the best and brightest coach bar none (Jon Gruden.) The football is in your stadium, I hope you make the right decision.

Thank you for you time and assistance,
Mike
