Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIV

Finebaum just basically said that Gundy was a good hire...also said GS was one too...similarities...aaaand go!

The only coach I'll be ecstatic about is Gruden. My number 2 would be Malzahn. Gundy? I would much prefer to have a guy that has shown he can beat Saban. Gundy will be at best the #3 or #4 coach in the SEC, maybe #5. That ain't bad, but that ain't what we need.

Where are we at on getting his ass out. Honestly.

The fight to get his ass out is happening above my pay grade. What I hear right now is that people are working to make it happen, but Currie/Haslam are working just as hard to get a coach in before the other boosters can apply their leverage.

That's why VN needs to buy time by voicing refusal to accept any hire before administration is under new direction. Any name that is tossed out while Currie is AD is a distraction. "Hey, pay no attention to the knife I stabbed into the programs back, look at this shiny new coach, don't you want us to hire him?"

Agree..

$8m would make Gundy the 3rd highest paid college coach. Is he the 3rd best?

Agree, Hawk, but that’s not how it works. Matt Stafford is the highest paid guy in NFL history. You either pay them or find cheaper alternatives. We’ve been finding cheaper alternatives for quite some time.

I'd pick the guy who is young (50) has won a ton of football games (100+) and has competed with the top coaches in the nation and beaten them. Kiffin was basically a walking NCAA violation who screwed this entire fanbase and university. I'm amazed at the level of BVS it takes to make people want him back.

Specifically the co-eds of the fanbase

It chaps my backside that you even worry about hiring a coach right now and not getting rid of the cancer. Hope to hell you're a young person or you will NEVER see a top tier coach in your lifetime if we don't get rid of the crap that's running the show. Send emails, pick up the damn phone and stop complaining.

If you can do the math I'm 35......

How is Haslam working hard? Isn't he in court? Seems like he has just sent Johnny out to play and gave him a list of things to do.

If folks are going to give Currie a pass they deserve what they get. CURRIE is the one that has screwed us because he is a Haslam and Davenport PUPPET and they are all Haslams puppets. The HOUSE of PUPPETS lead by puppet master!!!!! That has to change, people need to understand that. And if the boosters truly had Gruden they need to be loud as hell. CAN CURRIE NOW or lose.

I believe yes.

You have heard not one word from Gruden yet. He's watching to see what happens, same as us.

Said another way, the people who got Gruden to consider coaching here in the first place are still real people with real money. They wanted, and still want him. But everyone realizes now, Currie and the Haslam influence HAS to go.

So give us the ammo - or better yet, people with proof, the boosters who courted Gruden need to put something out in public!!!

I've emailed & tweeted - nothing is going to come of that! Not at the current level - practically nothing on twitter about firing Currie!

I hate to be that guy but...

If they had it they would
If they wanted to they would
If enough people hated Haslam they would

The problem is he’s got enough folks in his pocket to make **** go away.

I mean who really thinks he’s going to prison? At worst he gets a slap on the wrist. I’m betting someone takes the fall tho. It’s just the way high profile people are viewed compared to blue collar folks

How many National Championship's or Super Bowls has he won??

People freaking out and taking whatever they can get.

It's time for UT to stop settling for lower level coaches.

Again, I’m not saying Gundy was even in my Top 5...he is however in my Top 5 of what’s left to choose from who will actually listen.

But this national title line people keep throwing out is ridiculous. Our TOP 4 guys - Gruden, Kelly, Patterson, and Petersen - are all at “0” COMBINED in that category.

Just sounds like crazy talk using that as a criteria all of a sudden after drooling over 4 guys who didn’t meet it.

Who cares where you’ve been?!?! All of this looks bad but again Stop downing ppl in a Gruden thread for wanting Gruden. GTFO.

Don't blame me for downing. Blame our incompetent AD. Truth hurts. Kick rocks if you don't like what someone says that doesn't fit your agenda.

I’m all about getting Currie and Bev out, but can’t that still be done with a good football coach on board?? If Currie can get Gundy, he should. The cost is a bit outrageous but guess what, it’s where we are. We are gonna over pay for anybody right now. You think if it comes down to Tee, he’s not gonna take advantage of the fact that we are grasping at straws? And I’d be ok with that too, but if you give me the choice, right now, I’d take Gundy. I’ve been here like many of you since 2012, bought in all the grumors but I think I*t* was a long shot to begin with, and even more so now. If they succeed in firing Currie, great, but there’s no assurance that if they do we get Blackburn or Phil, we may end up with another Hamilton for all we know. That is a mess that’s gonna take longer than a few weeks to fix, in the mean time, if we can get a good coach, in spite of the circus that’s going on now, then we need to pay up and lock him in. IMO.

I'm not sure why people don't see this. I guess they are still under the assumption that we could fire Currie and Gruden would take the job. I was at 15 percent on Gruden before Sunday. I'm at .0001 percent now, even if they are removed.

If Gruden would come here if they were gone he could make it happen in 30 seconds. All he'd need to do is an interview saying "I'd love to take the Tennessee job, but there would have to be changes in the AD there for it to happen."

There'd be a reaction louder than the one Sunday.
