Official Jon Gruden thread XLI

Not doubting, just asking: What would prohibit Gruden from being employed by both ESPN and UT as long as all parties are O.K. with it? I don't see a conflict of interest there.

I would imagine there are some real contractual issues that would need to be ironed out on both ends. ESPN contract would need some added addendums, UT would have some complicated riders up front.

I am not doubting AV at all, he certainly seems well connected. A little devil’s advocate here, which was being discussed on Reddit earlier. The Seahawks photo, Gruden is wearing literally the same outfit as the other pics. It is possible that he was in Seattle in the morning and Knoxville in the evening.

It’s very odd that Calhoun’s was sure he was there, then all of the sudden they are not. It’s totally possible the AD threatened Copper Cellar management to cover up the story. Currie has said he wants this all under wraps.

Also, the pics are all blurry and the back of “someone’s” head. That could be because they were explicitly told they were not supposed to take pics. All the pics were taken in haste and covertly.

Again, probably not likely, but conceivable theory of an AD cover up. Cue the X-Files theme.

People are forgetting that to go from Knoxville to Seattle is a little over 4 hour flight by private jet.

He could have been at Calhouns from noon to 1 p.m. and been in Seattle by 3 p.m. due to the time zone variance. It's not all that improbable he could have been in both places in the afternoon without needing to be cloned.

True, however, kickoff for LSU was at 7, halftime around 9(looks to be raining in the background, which started around half). That would be impossible, unless people are suggesting this picture was from a different game (which also would be significant imo).

I have said all along that I bet UT got wind of the pictures floating around of him at Calhoun's Saturday and even Calhoun's basically confirming it was him. UT made some calls and basically told them to shut up. Wouldn't surprise me if they threatened to pull their sponsorship. That was a pretty big leak.

Today is the first time I've seen the skybox pic.

This is not a stretch

Agreed LAV, if he has an OC and DC hired then the recruits will stay with the plan, he doesn't have to sit in an office and help keep Currie company. I think he could do MNF until the season's over, and part ways with ESPN on a high note with no problem.

AV, MIT, Bubba, DTO, Boro, Exile have all said done deal, you either believe or not. Other people have opinions but have not had much corroboration.
Hoping everyone has a Great Thanksgiving!

The only problem I could see would be with NCAA and recruiting.

I think that recruiting is the big NCAA issue. I know Meyer had some kind of waiver when he was hired, but I don’t know when exactly he stopped announcing for ESPN.

Also, from what I’ve seen, Grudens ESPN contract has an exclusivity clause to try and discourage him from seeking coaching job.

I personally believe that he was in Knoxville...
Fanning the flames.

When he was originally shown in the stands during the South Carolina game, I thought, Wow... That's so cool! He just loves football and enjoys sitting in the stands like other fans.

But thinking about it for a few weeks with all that has materialized...

I think that was to jump start the fans into thinking maybe he could be interested in being our next head coach.

If pm and jg know that currie wants this under wraps, why go to the busiest restaurant on game day. Makes no sense.

I saw this a few minutes ago. If this is true, then the pictures of him in Seattle would have been an old photo? Out of curiosity, what's your opinion on him being in Knoxville?

Does not matter in the least. All that matters is that he has signed (or not)? Based on the pieces of info floating out there (pix not included), I think he has. Just too much on the side of Gruden to UT vs. someone else. If, as some have suggested, Gruden is the smokescreen, that would be one of the most idiotic strategies of the decade. It would alienate a large part of our fanbase for years. Don't see that as a viable scenario.
