Mullen doesn’t add up to me. He has to be how many names down the list? Not enough time passed for us to be turned down by 2-4 guys? Especially after all the Gruden smoke. No way Currie leaves the country without a coach. Otherwise why not hire a search firm? Either Currie is a joke who isn’t taking this seriously, or he signed his guy before he left?

I think Currie had his target. Also think he had two or three other splash hires in mind. I think Mullen is a fallback plan if none of the others pan out. Jmo

He is an example of the type of hiring done here the last 50 years. Its who you know not what you know. That gets you mediocrity. I'm not sure Bob even gets to mediocre.

I am hopeful Jon Gruden will be our next HC at UT. The reason I remain hopeful, is surely Currie is not so dumb to let the Grumors keep going unchecked. He risks a large contingent of the fan base going ape poop crazy and revolting if he trots out another mid-tier coach. I for one will be done if he does.

The best move for Currie, if he knew it was not going to be Gruden, is to come out and shut down the Gruden talk. Or have Gruden do it. Since neither have done this along with all of the smoke, I remain hopeful that :

JON GRUDEN WILL BE THE NEXT HEAD COACH AT TENNESSEE!

For what it's worth.

Im not as confident as some are on Gruden being a done deal, but...

I think our next coach is a done deal. I really don't think there is any question. It very well may not be Gruden, but there is just too much that makes sense that it is.

FTR and Just me, but reading "it's done, contract signed", means less to me than more.

I’m holding steady at 90% it’s Gruden. There wasn’t this much smoke in 2012. Nor was there as many credible people (I say that tongue in cheek because it’s a message board, so..) who are absolutely positive. Engineers, Lawyers, Military and others who’ve made a career of putting pieces together to form a conclusion. I like Beaver and Bubba but even without them, I’d still be at 90% just using my own ability to process information we’ve all gathered. I agree with you that the coach is hired. He has him and the only acceptable canidate outside of Gruden for me is Petersen. Patterson would be 3rd. I actually like Frost but he’s not what we need right now. And the turtle from Starkville needs to come to TN only to visit Gatlinburg at Christmas.
