Official Jon Gruden thread XLI

If Gruden brings in Kevin Steele as DC then I hope he brings back Rodney Garner as DL coach. Garner is one of the best in the business recruiting and I hated when he left the Vols. He has signed top 4 and 5 stars everywhere he has been with Vols, Georgia and Auburn.

Currie has been successful tamping out leaks. If it were me, this would seem like a wonderful time to find out who my friends were, the blabbermouths, the leakers, the loyal. Each day I would tell one person a “rumor” so I could analyze the stream through which it flowed, ensuring a loyal chain of command in the future. Do any of you guys think like this? The integrity of my team would be just as important as my hire. Would smoke the mf’s out.

Yep, sounds like a military or intel type of thing to do, leak some stuff that isn't really important (or real), and make sure it's different to each channel, and see what flows out in the media/social/whatever channels, can get some pretty good ideas about who is doing the chattering that way

You guys must believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus if you think Gruden is taking the job. They wouldn't wait until the season was over to announce his hiring.

I can make you a great deal on the Golden Gate Bridge that I own. You can get rich, quick, by charging toll fees for all those cars that cross it daily. Don't let anyone else know about this or they will want in on it, too.

And here you are with the big guy himself:

I just want Gruden to hire guys he’s familiar with and who can coach. I don’t care if they are Tennessee guys. They will be soon enough.

I don’t need a staff who has to get to know each other. I think lack of a cohesive staff was a big part of Jones’ issues. Of course he caused it, but I don’t think everyone was on the same page most of the time.

I agree and think Jones' inability to get the right staff -EVER- was his biggest weakness, look at all the leaders of industry, coaching, whatever, their #1 thing is to surround yourself with great people, if you are afraid someone might outshine you, you aren't the right kind of leader

A couple of hints for the Trolls. There are basically 3 types of people in this thread...

- Those who are hopeful it will be Grude, but are objectively looking for nuggets of information for hints as to who the next coach will be or an early warning when the news starts to break
- Those who are full Grude based on info they have or have been given by others in the thread
- Those who are so sick of the last 10 - 15 years of Tennessee football, that the idea of Grude gives them hope and inspiration of brighter days ahead

So Trolls - if you aren't in one of the 3 categories above. Get lost, GTFO and go somewhere else where you are wanted (maybe your mama cares what you think, because we don't). For the people who are in one of the 3 categories above, your presence is simply a waste of time and represents a re-commitment to the errors of the past that none of us will ever accept.

Much different. Currie has a tight lid on things. Some people claim to still be getting info. I’m not. However, i trust my source who told me that Currie got his man. That was last week or so I think. Can’t remember the exact day.

I have been traveling so I apologize if it has already been mention but do you think Currie's man and our man (Gruden) is the same man?

Every insecure or inept leader is that way. Dont want anyone to know your only a 5 Star heart coach.

Hubbs reporting that he thinks there's a good chance of Austin Thomas being on the new staff. Would be huge if true

Also, I find it odd that Hubbs thinks that Thomas would be part of the staff without knowing who the HC is going to be.. Currie has his man

I would definitely want to know who 'had my back', so to speak..

FNX 45 here.

Enjoying the side arm discussions this morning...

I carry either a Colt OM 1911 or a high capacity 45acp for conceal carry on travel. Around the farm I always have either a Ruger single action Blackhawk 44 or my Ruger single action BearCat 22lr. Both fit well in the front chest pocket of my overalls...

Be Safe,
