It's all Grude news until it isn't.

Away with all the NegaGrudens until after the verdict is in.

Have a Grude day.

Gruden morning, volnation! Long time time member and lurker. If you never post or take the time to log in, you run the risk of forgetting said password and email address used. That's the boat I was in, so here's to hoping I remember this time.

Don't worry, I have zero insider info on JG and UT. But I got an early start and am ready for some good news to roll in today. GBO

I entertained this Gruden lunacy in 2012 and it ended up being a complete joke. If you are casually reading this crap with any hope that Gruden is our next coach please stop now. Do yourself a favor and keep moving. The majority of the people in this thread that claim to know something are trolls looking for internet validation from their mom's basement.

Stop bringing down the Gruden vibe. Plenty of other threads out there

Well I got a whole 3 hours of sleep. Got up to pee and instantly thought about this thread. Had to check it to see what I've missed. Now I'm wide awake and gotta get up for work soon. This thing is to the point of obsession now and probably affecting my health. I'm ready for it to just be over. Lol. Btw I just watched the Clay Travis video and it's interesting. Sounds like he cautiously believes it could happen.

I missed a lot cause of sleep and work. Been wondering if those two new guys dropping all the “details” kept rolling.

Hamilton stopped posting after a while but MIT kept posting. Then 2 more new guys popped in saying Fulmers nephew said Gruden with PM as OC. Lol. They both have brand new accts. pretty sure that was an obvious troll job. One of them has since edited all of his posts to just random letters. You can still see his posts in quotes though.

My take on the bombshell that DTO said:
It's all smokescreen. Why on earth would any reputable insider within the AD risk there Job to spill the beans that grumor agreed to a deal along with his assistants when they know butch is employed. it makes no sense to say hey we hired gruden but pls don't tell anybody on forums or anything if that nature. That would go over like a fart in a church. Boro alluded to this a few days ago when we think we hear something a lot of misinformation is gonna follow in order to keep Any leaks from coming out. nobody is gonna say anything until when butch is let go that's the way this works. John Currie is much different when going about his business. Take a look at the Lady Vols issue

UT AD putting out false info as a smokescreen?
That sounds familiar.

I can't remember but I'm highly skeptical that Gruden would leave his current gig for the freaking Browns. That would be utterly stupid and Gruden is not stupid.

He took a job working for Al Davis, so....

Seriously though, if the guy is confident in his abilities and can have the control he needs, then I'd buy it. He's an Ohio guy, so maybe that would be a reason, IDK but we've seen weirder things happen

Out of everything being said yesterday only 1 thing actually intrigues me. Albert Haynesworth's tweet. For him to mention Haslam by name tells me he knows something. Whether it's Gruden or not, he seems pleased and if he's pleased I think the rest of us will be too.

I grew up in a fortunate situation so I was not judging. If you went to a Baylor or McCallie then neither you nor your family are poor. Those schools cost 20k plus per year. My close family friend has developed Cambridge square and is a member at the honors so I’ll ask him this weekend what if anything he may know. Is in with the Lupton and defoor families.

An easy solution is to show him MIT's pic. His car and arm should be extremely easy to identify.

Damn it! I don't think we have enough people on night shift to handle an order of this size!!!!

I'll bite first....Welcome to the board. Please have a seat. We have a few questions we'd like to ask.

"They are honest, and I have no reason to make something like this up."

Besides the fact that you want to start a riot!

Phil's nephew told who's dad?

This post is underrated IMO.

I've read all of this garbage and I've gotten sucked in like everyone else. Here's my take.

I've made a decent living from being able to synthesize data, extract the relevant information and draw correct conclusions; but I've never seen anything like this.

I have no contacts, info, etc. I'm trying to form an opinion here and wading through all the manure to get there is a chore.

Theories:
Butch's fate was sealed weeks ago and an agreement has been reached on his resignation. Some effort to get the horse back in the barn after the info leaked out, but this one is done. Too many reliable folks indicating this.

Jon Gruden is a candidate, the candidate, for the job. Same as above. Too many reasonable people reporting this information. He is a candidate, not a unicorn.

Gruden's original answer prior to seeing any offer was, "no thanks." One respected writer on TOS explicitly said over a week ago Gruden would not be the next coach at UT. Over time it became apparent his sources came from the Gruden camp, not the UT camp.

Gruden's original answer reminds me of Saban's original answer when Bama was courting him. What else could Gruden say, especially since we still have a coach. But it wasn't a final answer, since he didn't have all the information.

Solid leaks aren't coming from within UT. It's been detailed how Currie works and how tightly he keeps the lid on searches. Staff have apparently been reminded that leaks can lead to "future endeavors." Widely reported that very few, perhaps less than 5 other people, are privy to the actual progress of the search. Given this, it precludes any of the leaks coming here or elsewhere from being related to people directly involved. So, they're either related but not directly involved parties at UT, friends and family of the Gruden's or folks full of crap. I suspect we're seeing all three in this thread.

Nothing will be finalized, announced, etc with any coach at this point. The idea that some folks have that a deal will be reached now and information will be dispersed is ridiculous. They've not even announced Jones' departure. No verifiable information will emanate from UT until after the resignation is announced.

The Gruden deal is not dead. There are too many problems with this theory. First, if Gruden is truly Currie's 1-10th choice, then being turned down once or twice would not deter Currie. Likewise, Gruden's agent isn't going to just go along with whatever first theoretical offer is tossed out. As folks have said this will be protracted and fluid. Second, things shifted from stunningly positive to despairingly negative too fast. I suspect on that regard, Currie got tired of the leaks and decided to put out misinformation. Not to hide the fact that a deal was done, but just to relieve pressure and keep as many folks as possible out of the process. Third, as several folks have pointed out, the money is moving against the general sentiment. There's a reason that people don't beat the market investing. Those with information don't speak, they just move money. If there was real momentum that he was going to a pro franchise instead of UT, the odds would not have tumbled the way they did.

The visit to Knoxville, the house hunting and the messages from the fraternity angles have been overplayed. None provide any real evidence of Gruden's intentions. These to me are nothing but red herrings that make great internet rumor fodder. Would be different if the Grudens didn't already have so many ties to the area, but because they do, there are plenty of reasons for them to be in town and looking to buy a house and live there at least part of the time.

On the other hand, the money is not an issue and neither is MNF. These are things that can be worked out fairly easily if parties on both sides are motivated.

So all this typing to conclude this:
- Jones is gone and it appears this will become public sooner rather than later.
- Coach Fulmer will finish the year, at least the regular season
- Gruden is being recruited, but it's still in process. No decision points have been reached.
- The good feelings from the past two days reveal he was more receptive than some thought, but no more than that.
- The bad feelings today are either over-reaction to natural negotiations or a smokescreen to throw people off the story
- No deal is inked or dead with any candidate. I believe the earliest we'll hear about any full-time coach hire will be the week of Missouri or LSU. Gruden or otherwise.
- I hope like heck it's Gruden, but I believe JAV and others in that even if it's not, I don't think there is any chance we're pulling from the MAC or Sunbelt this time.
- I have wasted an inordinate amount of time on this mess and I'm going to bed.

All this is great and agree with most except Hoke would be interim imo .. Well done 👍

Good morning all. The one thing that stands out to me from all the overnight posts are how small the world must be. Never saw so many people that play golf with boosters in high places. Hope you all have a Grude day!

Jon Gruden Talks About Life After Coaching - YouTube

14 minute profile of CJG. A few years old, and it has Bryant Gumbel :yuck:, but a fascinating look at the man.

Watch this and then tell me:

That a CJG hire wouldn't send the Tennessee fan base into pandemonium

That CJG couldn't recruit a Top 5 class every year

That CJG wouldn't work his guts out to beat Saban and McElwain and Smart

That CJG wouldn't have Tennessee BACK within 2 seasons

Holy Crap! I'm fired up now. I've got some eligibility left - I'm ready to play for him.

Maybe I'll just watch this again

A recent join date is suspect, but it doesn’t make them any more or less credible than anybody else on here, especially the OGs who were proven wrong five years ago.

I say let everybody post, and take it all with a grain of salt. I will not believe anything until there is a press conference.

Maybe, it's just odd. Seems weird that guys who are not message board guys, would get huge info and instantly think "I'll start a VN account/start posting". Just have a hard time believing someone would jump on here with info. Why? Some kind of need to be validated? Not speaking about anyone specific but when we see guys come out of nowhere then start posting claiming to be in the know.
I learned my lesson in 2012 and believe nothing. That doesn't mean I doubt the guys on here who claim to know, it means I think people can here wrong info from those w/good intent, and people can post believing something is true and not trying to mislead on purpose. I just don't want the feeling of waking up and hearing Butch Jones after being led to believe that Strong was a smokescreen and him turning us down was proof he was never a candidate b/c Gruden. I love being on here because guys are funny, have good UT football stories, etc. I take all inside info w/grain of salt, but just enjoy reading posts and seeing back and forth and know some on here do know people, have info a lot and have learned over the years who they are .
