Official Jon Gruden Thread XIX

Oh Great Grude, I need you so badly to come and sweep away the idiot portion of fans we have.

I just spent the afternoon arguing with a local high school football coach who desperately is clinging to Jones. He called all the players who transferred punks. Blamed them for missing field goals against Florida as the sole reason we lost that game. Said (and I'm not making this up) that because Jones' 2013 class was ranked 25th and not in the top 20, we can't in any way blame him for the product on the field.

He thinks Medley has been injured for his entire time here and that's why he misses longer field goals but overall thinks he's a good kicker because he makes the short ones.

He then blamed fans for stirring up the team and causing them to lose. He said we've had more transfers and injuries than any team in the nation. He refused to even acknowledge it when I pointed out Florida had 9 players suspended vs us with a 3rd year coach.

He capped it off by saying I was too emotional, part of the problem that is causing Butch to struggle and that he couldn't debate me any more because I was letting my emotions get the better of me.

Can someone give me a brief synopsis on the love for Jon Gruden? Why are our fans fascinated with this man? He has a record of 100-85 as a head coach...

Welp I cant speak for everyone but here is why I am all in for Gruden. In 99 my family and I moved to Tampa, Fl. Bucs were a good team but never could figure out the offensive side of the ball. Great defense under Dungy and Monte but never could get the offense rolling. After a few debacles in the playoffs the Bucs signed Gruden in 2002. As we all know he had the Raiders humming on offense. He had Rich Gannon playing lights out, which before Gannon signed with the Raiders in 99 he was just a journey man QB.

Gruden came to the BUCS and transformed the offense immediately with old veteran QB Brad Johnson. Implementing the West Coast offense and grinding games out with Mike Alstott and Michael Pittman out of the back field. They would hit teams from all directions. Every game looked different on the offensive side of the ball (great play calling and adjustments). They would capitalize on turnovers and take shots when momentum was on their side. Gruden liked Kill shots when he sniffed any momentum. Brad Johnson obviously wasn't a stud but Gruden got the best out of him. Gruden was the X-factor that season. He was the missing piece to that stout defense.

I hate when ppl say he won with Dungy's players. If Dungy couldn't win a Super Bowl, how is it Dungys players? Its not Grudens fault Dungy could not get over the hump. Gruden got the best out of those players and they responded with a Lombardi Trophy.

I think with Gruden he would bring a Juice to Knoxville. Unifying the fan base to epic proportions. Same way he did with the Raiders and the Bucs. Notice those teams are still trying to figure out who they are after post Gruden. To me he is the one we need and a coach everyone can get behind. All in on Gruden!

He heard the same story that was going around this morning late last night, and posted about it this morning. He's never been able to verify it either.

Oh ok I missed that obviously in all the confusion. Still think it is highly likely a lot of misinformation flying around. But we shall see. I still believe!

Sorry to be a nega-Grude but Haynesworth specifically said great news for “us VFL’s” as in former players

I doubt this is related to finding a new coach.

What would Haslam be doing for former players? Signing them to the Browns. They do not want to play for the Browns.

Leonard Little is chiming in too :)

Again I say,

Did you punch him directly in the face?

Considering Gruden probably makes around $8 million a year from ESPN, Corona commercials, and other things he is involved with (his 2015 ESPN Salary was $6.5 mil) I think it would take more money than any coach is worth to get him to give that up and start having to work his a$$ off being a head coach. I may be wrong but unless he just want's to do it, money alone isn't going to convince him to come here. And if UT pays him a ridiculous sum to get him, we will probably still be laughed at nationally for over paying him, especially if he isn't extremely successful. Like Saban successful. What ever UT offers ESPN will probably match anyway and it could get out of hand very fast.

How much do you guys think is reasonable to pay someone. A handful coaches are making over $5 mil. now. Jim Harbaugh made $9 mil last year and he is not worth that.

Agreed. It seems like everybody it shut down around the same time.

As an aside, and for the sake of levity ...

A few years ago, me and my boy (who was still kinda young at the time) watched one of the Terminator movies. Arnold was the good guy, and the teenage boy was explaining to him the meaning of "talk to the hand."

A couple nights later, I was watching Matrix, and got to the scene in the gif, my boy chimes in with, "Talk to the hand" in his best little 7 (or so) year old Arnold voice. Hilarious!

To your ESPN point...they are undergoing major budget and personnel cuts. In the last year of his current contract it's only a matter of time until the get around to him....especially with the plummeting ratings of NFL football.

Is ESPN still in a position to counter a matching offer of $9M for an analyst? Not pretending I know, it just seems like the network is downsizing.

Grudness gracious!

No real significance, just wanted to say it. Hope I'm the first, but if not, I hope it's at least still enjoyable.

Make a fake Gruden account and say he's a fan of the second ammendment and they will just fire him.

..

That was a joke. No one do that please.

It is funny that new posters with < 200 posts (i.e., limited/no credibility) make some claim and folks take it as gospel and run with it being the latest truth.

#StillHope4Gruden

Sorry, but I don't understand what the number of posts have to do with credibility. The only people who could know something post on VolNation all the time?
