Official Jon Gruden Thread XIX

I'm just trying to figure out why so many folks are giving some guy featured on Basilio so much merit. After all, we are talking about the same Tony Basilio who infamously claimed that Lovie Smith was on a plane headed to Knoxville when we ended up hiring Dooley. Nobody on that show has a clue about what is going on in UT athletics.

I don't. I think Hubbs starting to mention Gruden far outweighs the opinion of someone on Basilio.

That's all gou can do sometimes. Good for you that you recognized it. When did you move back to knoxville? I was in the boro from 1999-2002 at Mtsu. Good times, the city blew up quickly.

I lived in Walter Hill from 99-2001. Came back here, then went back to the Blackman area from 2005-2011. Came back here late in 2011. We've put down roots. My next move will be to some land out of the county once my daughter is out of HS.

I believe Gruden is still on the table also, just got information that makes me think they are putting out wrong information to make us think he said no. If it is true what I was told, I think he is our next coach, but like last time, I will believe it when I see him standing on the podium. Will post later when I get an update....

This is what it is sounding like.

Can anyone imagine what it would be like if ESPN reported they have breaking news that Tennessee has hired Jon Gruden as Head Coach.
1. Volnation would probably be down
2. Everyone would check every Vol site for verification
3. We would have all of our TVs on local news and ESPN
4. UT campus would go wild.
5. Everyone would try to go to press conference
6. Local sports radio shows would eat crow especially Ainge
7. Bama and Florida forums would be in disbelief
8. Going to work talking trash to other fans that hate UT
9. Our spouses and better half’s would tell us that they seen press conference 100 times after you DVR it.
10. You call Tennessee Found to upgrade season tix.

It’s nice to dream a little. Please make this a reality Peyton, Fulmer, Currie and boosters.
I disagree with #6.
Ainge would be telling us all that he knew about it all along and was trying to squash all of the rumors floating around in order to keep the deal from falling through.

Greatest HC introduction ever, him standing on the podium. I can picture it.

Don't blame you there. We would like to move out in the country once our daughters our off as well. I have a while though, only 8 and 4.

damn we started at MTSU the same year, although I quit going after the first year lol.

To add on to what Boro has said, here's a basic way to look at why people do things and why he may WANT to coach here.
6 Human needs.
Certainty, Variety, Love/Connection, Significance, Growth and Contribution.
Does he get at ESPN? Sure. He would get more of it here though.
2nd thought on this. Humans NEED a goal. He loves UT and football.
I'm sure he feels the same way we do when he watches it.
How much growth and real contribution can he achieve at ESPN...
IF he thinks he can bring us to where HE wants us to be, I believe he will come.

Why would a combat veteran volunteer for another tour?
Why would a doctor resign from his practice to go on the mission field?
Why would a senior citizen work at all when they've wisely saved and planned for financial security in their golden years?

Many people seek personal fulfillment in life and that manifests itself in so many different ways.

Exactly. And then there are the people who only find self fulfillment by trying to tear down the hopes and dreams of others and finding every way to ruin a fun time. Usually I've found that these are the same type of person in college who would show up to a party and complain about the brand of free beer in the keg. We all know "that guy".

Have watched this forum for many years and only posted once. My point, I am more convinced today than at any other point in the past 10 years that we have a big fish on the hook. Now, that fish may not get to the boat. But I would strongly encourage all to take the advice of others including Boro and relax. This process is not going to be completed today, tomorrow or even next week. Enjoy the ride and I honestly think we are on the brink of returning our program to what it once was. I'll never forget the headline in the "Tennessean" many years ago when Johnny Majors was hired, "Tennessee Returns to the Majors" I think we will have the same type of headline.

SOON

Great post! :good!:

I remember the headline in the "Nashville Banner"....When Johnny Comes Marching Home.
