Official Jon Gruden Thread XIX

Just like last time there is ZERO chance Gruden is coming here. That man will never ever coach another down of football EVER. Why would you want to work everyday all year when he works about 2 or 3 days a week right now and easily probably makes 10 million between ESPN and endorsements.

To the pit of misery!!!

Why would a combat veteran volunteer for another tour?
Why would a doctor resign from his practice to go on the mission field?
Why would a senior citizen work at all when they've wisely saved and planned for financial security in their golden years?

Many people seek personal fulfillment in life and that manifests itself in so many different ways.

Yep...my poor example of a father is a disgraced preacher, turned truck driver. He spent nearly 25 years in the ministry. Luckily his shortcomings didn't damage my faith. Sometimes a bad example is a good example of what NOT to do.

I have been broken so many times and God keeps on picking the pieces back up and making a miracle.... the Kint-Sugi effect of Christian life.... much love to you and your dad .... never know what God can do with a broken man

This will probably end up being long. I don't care.

I bought in last time - and like everyone else keep saying I'm not going to this time.

Perhaps for entertainment purposes only - or just to dream and keep my mind off the tail whipping coming Saturday from the team I hate the most...I've started reading this thread.

Keep seeing the same quote: Why would JG want to coach again a. has it made b. doesn't want long work hours c. already loaded d. has it made e. has it made etc...

I coach HS ball in Georgia. Did football and baseball for a while, and just due to the amount of time football takes I had to give one up. Have been successful at times in both sports - and lately have been very successful in baseball.

I try and imagine what it would be like to have the kind of money these guys make. And perhaps, if I had that kind of money, I'd walk away from the game and hit every Caribbean Island with my wife and probably Tahiti too.

But at some point - I think I'd miss it. I'd miss the locker room, the dugout, the competition - but mostly I think I'd miss the adrenaline, the nerves, the butterflies, the pressure, - the feeling you get winning a state championship....there isn't a drug that gives you that sort of feeling, and well - if there is - I certainly don't need to find it.

Some guys just love it. I'm not sure I could stay away even if I didn't need the money. And I'm doing it for a whole lot less than he would be.

Not saying he's coming, not coming - even if he's in play at all. But the idea that he won't come because of money/time etc... could be way off.

Just 2 more cents thrown in.

So, instead of stressing all night about coaching decisions and hopeful thoughts border-lining on unhealthy obsession of Grudenotions, I spent quality time building with Legos with my 5 year old last night. Then caught up on some TV series on the DVR.

At 11:30 the itch to check on Grumors needed scratched before bed. At 2:30am I had systematically gone backwards to the old thread, found the starting point of drama and caught up on the closed thread, then read through the 100 pages of new thread at that point.

Suffice it to say sleep was compromised. I tried counting Grudens. That only got me excited so sleep wasn't happening. Finally, I streamed the most involved documentary of WW1 I could find on Amazon Prime. Got about 3.5 hours of good sleep till the wife woke my "didn't come to bed last night a$$" up. And there on my TV's screen saver that had decided from favorites that we "like" football was Nick *$#$&@# Saban's smug face with an advertisement for Bammer football staring at me in my half awake stupor.....

Today has been rough.

Soon!

This guy gets it. ^^^^^:loco:

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that it's largely the unambitious that subscribe to the "why would he want to" theory. I don't mean that disrespectfully...the world needs all kinds. Some people are simply wired differently. College coaches are typically active, pursuant, Type-A personalities...that many in our mundane world cannot identify with.

The same could be said for anyone that has achieved success at a higher level. There's a drive or fire that can't be quenched. I hate to mention Saban but he is the best example out there of someone who is never satisfied.

The broken person has to be willing. Haven't spoken to him in 6 years....after a previous estrangement of 10 years.

One can only try for so long...I did, and finally had to turn my full attention toward the family I had made. I've never looked back.

Tired of the negagrudeners. After our first game with Gruden as head coach, in his post game presser he will name Guarantano as his Gruden Grinder for the game.

I'm just trying to figure out why so many folks are giving some guy featured on Basilio so much merit. After all, we are talking about the same Tony Basilio who infamously claimed that Lovie Smith was on a plane headed to Knoxville when we ended up hiring Dooley. Nobody on that show has a clue about what is going on in UT athletics.

Pretty much what I was trying to say but put more eloquently.

Can anyone imagine what it would be like if ESPN reported they have breaking news that Tennessee has hired Jon Gruden as Head Coach.
1. Volnation would probably be down
2. Everyone would check every Vol site for verification
3. We would have all of our TVs on local news and ESPN
4. UT campus would go wild.
5. Everyone would try to go to press conference
6. Local sports radio shows would eat crow especially Ainge
7. Bama and Florida forums would be in disbelief
8. Going to work talking trash to other fans that hate UT
9. Our spouses and better half’s would tell us that they seen press conference 100 times after you DVR it.
10. You call Tennessee Found to upgrade season tix.

It’s nice to dream a little. Please make this a reality Peyton, Fulmer, Currie and boosters.

I tend to think the reports of "no" are an attempt to tamp down the speculation on Gruden for the moment. I really don't think he said no. If he HAD said no, I don't think we would have heard about it. And even if he DID say no, there's no way that Currie let that be the last word.

James Brown and I still feel Grude. :)

I noticed that the report that Gruden said no actual came out After that guy posted on Facebook that we had hired him..

Your post may have some merit

That's all you can do sometimes. Good for you that you recognized it. When did you move back to knoxville? I was in the boro from 1999-2002 at Mtsu. Good times, the city blew up quickly.
