I think this thread is a great example of what anxiety can do to you when you think about things too much (I'm including myself in this).

I tend to think the reports of "no" are an attempt to tamp down the speculation on Gruden for the moment. I really don't think he said no. If he HAD said no, I don't think we would have heard about it. And even if he DID say no, there's no way that Currie let that be the last word.

James Brown and I still feel Grude. :)

Just like last time there is ZERO chance Gruden is coming here. That man will never ever coach another down of football EVER. Why would you want to work everyday all year when he works about 2 or 3 days a week right now and easily probably makes 10 million between ESPN and endorsements.

Money is not everything. Coaching is what he grew up dreaming about doing. I'm not saying he will definitely coach again, but if he has that "itch" to do it then it's possible.

People are built different ways. Some people are Uber competitive and need the constant battle. Maybe he's made up like that. Maybe he's bored. Who knows

People believe he’d make a return because he loves football and loved coaching. Just like many other coaches that “retired” and got the itch to return, I hope Gruden is ready to scratch that itch.

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that it's largely the unambitious that subscribe to the "why would he want to" theory. I don't mean that disrespectfully...the world needs all kinds. Some people are simply wired differently. College coaches are typically active, pursuant, Type-A personalities...that many in our mundane world cannot identify with.

I have several friends that I work with that are worth 10s of millions of dollars and come to work every day. I can't imagine a scenario where I would want to keep doing what I do...regardless of how much money I have. I love the challenge and love winning.

If all you think about is not working hard when you have money....you aren't doing something right.
