Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

I expect us to hire Gruden, Cowher, Saban, Strong, Harbaugh, Fedora, or Kelly.

Only 2 of those names are realistic, but does that make you feel better?

If you want to be in the big time...you have to act like you belong.

You can't get a bargain basement coach and expect to compete with the programs that pay the big money.

UT is in shambles right now. The on-field performance of the football program over the past few years has just mirrored that.

Yea it sure would be hard to get a good coach with the cupboards stocked with many 4* and 5* recruits...

It's been said on VN before. Coaching is the only advantage you can officially pay for in college football.

Although I am not sure if you are disagreeing with me or not, I agree with your point.

I could live with a lot of coaches, but it just peeves me to think about the possibility that Hart intentionally screwed up the Gruden deal. That probably isn't true, but a lot of people are saying it and I can't let that go.

OK..

Urban Meyer aint going anywhere unless OSU kicks him out. Same for Chip Kelly. Both are at their dream jobs and Bammers would just be arrogant to assume those guys would consider going to Bama.

Tomlin is an up and coming NFL HC. Aint no way he's going to college. Bellicheck and Cowher are career NFL guys but I guess there is a sliver of hope that they could go to college.

That leaves Sumlin, Smart, and Patterson which looks remarkably like our list and much more realistic.

Agree. And, aren't Bammers notorious for their inability to match their expectations with reality? It wasn't long ago that they hired guys like Mike DuBose, Mike Price, Dennis Franchione and Mike Shula - Urban Meyer and Chip Kelly those are not.

Our expectations are high, and they should be. But matching the Bammers would make us look a whole lot worse than ESPN thinks we look right now pursuing Gruden. Here's why:
Kelly will be the next HC at the Chargers if he leaves Oregon. Mike Tomlin and Bill Belichick are downright laughable options - there's so much wrong with even including their names... Bill Cowher will go wherever he wants, and doesn't need toothless rednecks b****ing at him every time he beats Auburn by fewer than 10 points. Let's face it, Meyer wouldn't be caught dead visiting the state of Alabama. And Patterson had his days of flirting (Mike Hamilton rejected him, remember?), and they're over.

We should be happy that we're not trying to match Bammer expectations, ours should remain high, but not ridiculous like theirs.

And we had our chance to pay for it...and blinked.

I bet LSU regrets when they hired that Saban clown from Mich St.

I also can't believe Stanford only promoted their OC as coach. Those dips should have gotten a big name.

What about the balls of Notre Dame to go and kill their program by hiring Cinci's coach?!

A & M will never ever recover from not getting an NFL playoff coach. How could they settle for a guy from Houston.

Don't even get me started on how bad Florida, and Georgia are doing for not getting a huge name.

The only people saying Hart screwed it up are the "insiders" who were FOS now trying to salvage their E-cred.

Not saying you need a cheap coach, but remember that Urban Meyer was a Utah before Florida snapped him up.

Kelly was at Cincy.

If I told you that we were hiring a coach from one of those schools, you'd choke on your own tongue.

Dude Hart didn't screw up what was not there to screw up.In this search rumors took on a life of their own and became believable as fact. I chose to ignore info pointing to the truth for months while I chose to live in this fantasy. Its my fault, not blaming anyone. This much I am certain of at this point, but I was certain Gruden was a lot closer than he was so much for my certainty.

I would of been happy with most of the coaching options this year with this schedule and this group of talent. We probably would of been 11-1 at this point. Looking at next year with players leaving and schedule.... No one makes me happy.

The season will be a challenge. I agree with you. With that said, I hope old jimbo loses tonight. Go Jackets.
