Official Jon Gruden Thread XIII

Most logical fans dont think that, just the ones who know little about sports in general. There are universities and coach's going to BCS bowls every year. Plenty of good options available.

If I am reading your post right, I tend to agree.

Like most things in life (politics, sports, religion) the illogical minority are usually the loudest. I think that is what is happening here with this so-called "Gruden or bust" mentality. There are plenty of options who would jump at this job and be a HUGE improvement over what we have had the past five years.

We are largely basing our love for Gruden on three things that have nothing to do with his ability to succeed in the NCAA, 1)he was a GA at UT over 20 years ago, 2)his fiery personality and charisma, 3)a super bowl ring.

Look at the most successful coaches in the NCAA over the past 10 years, how many have any of that? 0. Maybe we are looking at the wrong thing trying to predict success?

There are several options being thrown around that I find to be incredibly compelling. I haven't heard a single coaches name being floated as "realistic" that I believe would be anything less than a step forward to what we have had. I have even heard a few attainable coaches (not named Gruden) who I believe could be incredibly successful here.

I tried to pass the info a long from what I got from a certain agent without blatant, but who told me Sunday that Jimbo Fisher was gonna be our guy. When asked how sure he was he said 95%.

But since I'm not an OG I don't guess anyone will believe me.

I have never attacked or ridiculed anyone with conflicting information. The reason I have doubted the Fisher assertion is a good one. OldVol75, despite what any haters think, is as fine and upstanding of a man I have ever met in my life. I am a better person for knowing him. I know for a fact that he is a man of honor and integrity that has my complete respect. I don't expect anyone to just buy that, but I know the man personally not just from talking in a forum. He has been neighbors with Fisher's wife's parents for over 20 years. That is a fact. They have directly told him that Fisher would not leave FSU for UT. They may very well be misinformed, they could have not been completely honest with OV. What I am certain of is that OV relayed what he had been told by Fisher's in-laws. Again, not attacking you in any way. I'm just explaining my reasoning for thinking your assertion is inaccurate. Then again, you could be 100% correct.

Has Dave Hart hired a coach yet?

I don't think so, but I'm not sure to be honest. He certainly hasn't paraded him up to the podium. I've heard about 10 reasons as to why but none of them make a lick of sense considering the money that is to be made.

Does Hart realize how much he will be hated if he doesn't bring in Jon Gruden after he was handed to him on a silver platter? Who doesn't hire Jon Gruden?

Most of the OG's have been saying this would go down after the last MNF game was done. If Hart doesn't have his man within the next week, you'll be able to see through all this smoke!

Dec. 21, 2006:
Saban: "I guess I have to say it. I'm not going to be the Alabama coach. ... I don't control what people say. I don't control what people put on dot-com or anything else. So I'm just telling you there's no significance, in my opinion, about this, about me, about any interest that I have in anything other than being the coach here."

Yep

There are so many respectful ways to turn down an offer. Why didn't they choose to do it with respect and dignity? Why does the Gruden camp appear to be pissed off at us? Did a donor's check bounce or something?

It may be another orchestrated shot across Hart's bow. I am guessing he did something to really pi$$ these guys off.

IMO on of the smart things to do would be to have Gruden sign while its 'quit season' for recruits. That way none of them are distracted by other coached, yet eveyone sees the news.

My question is:

What is Stephen Hargis thinking at the moment?

He basically put his career on the line only to have Lamonte come out and say any precedings with UT was a FANTASY.

If I were Hargis and had this much at stake, I would be preparing to fire back.

Just about garentee he'll be on sport talk today

I. Have been following since G 1 and don't post a lot, but I will stand by these guys anytime until someone is standing in front of the podium saying here is your new coach I will believe its Gruden and everybody that doesn't like it can kiss my a$$

You should post more, imo.

The only thing about this whole deal that really gripes me, is the local media just acting like "I told you so". If they are really local and care about this university and fan base, they should not be gleefully excited because we are crushed.

I'm still on the bus..... we don't have a coach hired yet

I Want Gruden

Gosh...everybody bolted, no one announced anything official yet. It's seems so empty in this room now with all the party trash laying on the floor. Like the day after a huge party.

I'm gonna start picking up empty cups and stacking them up. I need some for the house anyway.

But I'm staking a claim on my seat until an official announcement tells me to go home.

To the ogs and true insiders I feel no ill will towards any of you. I feel like you guys legit thought it was happening and were even told so by what was thought to be credible sources. You guys haven't ran and hid and for that I applaud you cause my head would be buried in the nearest pile of sand. Here's to the great university of tennesee and our next coach, whoever it is. The sun will still set today and we will all still love the vols come hell or high-water. I love my vols and always will! Now let's look to the future and hope for the best cause that's all we can do.
Good Post!
