Official Jon Gruden Thread XIII

Why in god's name would you want Fisher over Stoops? That's like walking into the car dealership as a millionaire, the salesman saying "Hey the Ferrari is only slightly more expensive than the Prius" and you driving off the lot in a 1994 Escort.

Stoops has been consistently good in his career and has been decent in recruiting. Fisher is a terrific recruiter that hasn't done too shabby himself in the win-loss column. I think Fisher has a little more fire than stoops and I am a big recruiting guy.

Uh oh this just now got real. This sucks! Who is the next thread about? Please say no to Golden!!! I am sick! :disappointed::no1::no1:

Ive taken everything you guys have said with a grain of salt just as I have those that didn't think it would get done. My point is that you were all gruden, then your weren't and then you were and then you weren't. Not good for anyone's credibility. I will not believe 100% who the coach is going to be until I see them at the podium and that has not changed since day one.

Find where I ever said 100% he WOULD and I will concede that you are right. You cannot because I never said that.

**** it, Im out. Have fun, this thread has been a blast. Heading to saner pastures.

Eff Lamonte and Jon Gruden

philkaplan Agent says Gruden never had interest in Vols, calls report 'fantasy.' First on the record report. #vols m.govolsxtra.com/news/2012/nov/…
The agent for former NFL coach Jon Gruden said reports that his client had received an offer from Tennessee were from a “fantasy world” and that Gruden had no interest in the Vols’ head coaching job.

“I haven’t said anything (about the ongoing rumors) because there’s been nothing to say,” said Bob LaMonte, the Reno, Nev.-based representative for Gruden. “This, to me, is just a fantasy world.”

LaMonte said he spoke to Tennessee Athletic Director Dave Hart for the first time this morning.

“He just said there had been a lot of rumors and he just wanted to clear the air,” LaMonte said. “I said, ‘Thank you for the call. I appreciate it.’ He said thank you and that was it.”

LaMonte said Gruden has no plans to leave ESPN, where he is in his fourth season as a commentator for Monday Night Football.

“Jon has made it clear he’s committed to ESPN,” LaMonte said.

LaMonte disputed reports that Gruden had been offered a contract or been negotiating terms to take the Tennessee job.

“I don’t know Dave Hart,” LaMonte said. “I’d never met him or talked to him. (Today) was the only time I talked to anyone from Tennessee.”

A source close to the Tennessee search who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media told the News Sentinel that Tennessee reached out to Gruden directly last week, but Gruden ultimately declined to pursue the job. The source supported LaMonte’s stance that no negotiations took place.

LaMonte said Hart’s call today was apparently a formality.

“He said, ‘I just wanted to do due diligence,’” LaMonte said. “I said, ‘Thank you but Jon has made it clear he’s committed to ESPN. He thanked me and said goodbye.”

Rather have an "up an comer" if we can't get Gruden. Don't like the names I'm hearing. Turning off Phone and PC for a while. Call my wife if we announce Gruden (867-5309) she knows how to get a hold of me.
Taking a break.....

Hey Baby, Your hubby Kvol87 posted you phone number on the internet this morning wanting someone to call you. He is a brilliant man you know. Very few men would be so generous with their wifes number.

If this is true and if the $$$ boosters did truly want Gruden, this is not going to sit well with them and Hart is in some deep doo-doo.

Okay, I read LaMonte's quote, and I will say this is the best thing that has come out so far, as far as actually saying something.

But here's what I'm thinking:

1. IF it's all true and completely straightforward, and Dave Hart has not talked to Gruden or LaMonte, and nobody has had any contact with anyone, then I want Hart gone immediately. You DO NOT have over 50% of your fan base calling for a specific coach and then not try to get him. You do not. You please your fan base. They are the lifeblood of your program. Period.

But....

2. Maybe this is all true about Hart not wanting Gruden, and it being all done by boosters. If that's the case, maybe Hart hasn't talked to LaMonte, because maybe only boosters have.

Unfortunately, it's sounding more like the first...but I still just can't believe that.

If so, then what in the crap has Hart been doing this whole time?

He was in his office, was he just paying Solitaire? I don't understand it at all.

It's somewhat sad that the best source of news on the Vols comes from Chattanooga.

I think its all just a matter of WHO the source is. The guy from the TFP stated that his source was one of the coaches that would be on Gruden's staff in Knoxville.

If you read into that statement, it means that there was DEFINITE interest from Gruden's end, otherwise why would he be putting a staff together. Also means $$$ was discussed (at least informally and not necessarily in the form of a formal offer). That way both Gruden AND UT could deny ever having given/received and offer, which is what is being "reported" that UT made no formal offer to Gruden, which could be true. Gruden may have heard the informal offer from boosters/middle en and decided that he didnt even want to hear the official pitch from UT.

what I really think might have happened is that Gruden was only interested in the hassle of a college job at the right price and if some/all of those hassles were removed. UT simply cannot give him everything he requires and so Gruden is of the opinion that coaching college just isnt worth the hassle.
