Official Jon Gruden Thread XIII

The agent for former NFL coach Jon Gruden said reports that his client had received an offer from Tennessee were from a “fantasy world” and that Gruden had no interest in the Vols’ head coaching job.

“I haven’t said anything (about the ongoing rumors) because there’s been nothing to say,” said Bob LaMonte, the Reno, Nev.-based representative for Gruden. “This, to me, is just a fantasy world.”

LaMonte said he spoke to Tennessee Athletic Director Dave Hart for the first time this morning.

“He just said there had been a lot of rumors and he just wanted to clear the air,” LaMonte said. “I said, ‘Thank you for the call. I appreciate it.’ He said thank you and that was it.”

LaMonte said Gruden has no plans to leave ESPN, where he is in his fourth season as a commentator for Monday Night Football.

“Jon has made it clear he’s committed to ESPN,” LaMonte said.

LaMonte disputed reports that Gruden had been offered a contract or been negotiating terms to take the Tennessee job.

“I don’t know Dave Hart,” LaMonte said. “I’d never met him or talked to him. (Today) was the only time I talked to anyone from Tennessee.”

A source close to the Tennessee search who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the media told the News Sentinel that Tennessee reached out to Gruden directly last week, but Gruden ultimately declined to pursue the job. The source supported LaMonte’s stance that no negotiations took place.

LaMonte said Hart’s call today was apparently a formality.

“He said, ‘I just wanted to do due diligence,’” LaMonte said. “I said, ‘Thank you but Jon has made it clear he’s committed to ESPN. He thanked me and said goodbye.”

Oklahoma is a good start for him. Further west ( China ) would be better.

Yep...but he's probably got a rock or a cave in north Alabama to hide in til Mal Moore retires.

If he royally F'cks us, he'll be a hero in Tuscaloosa.

Ouch.

Agent comments...

The offer was fantasy or the fact that he would come here was fantasy?

Big difference.

Keep fighting the good fight, chief! Lol.. If I would've known u were this mature at the beginning, I wouldn't have listened to a word ur troll self said. It's obvious what your agenda has been, and now u see everything coming down and you're angry.. Really angry..
I'm angry at one thing and only one thing.

Lol.. OG's: "Abandon ship!!!"

It's a gross misrepresentation that you are unable or unwilling to correct. You're FOS assertion of any agenda is absurd, and obviously a strawman argument to deflect from the above post. The only OG I've seen change their stance is bcarter. He's apparently heard things the rest of us have not.

The only persons maturity called into question is yours. Own your words or don't. That'll tell the story.

Me too, homey. It may very well dissolve, but it ain't over yet. The fat lady is Dave Hart.

Exactly. As I typed that, I got a text from knoxnews saying Grudens agent reports "Tennessee coaching offer were from "fantasy world"."

Just my luck.

List of ogs please.. they will have zero credibility after this if this for a south

They're not looking for ecred..Sheesh, get off of their backs...It's not their fault if things continue to go "south."

I'm beginning to understand more and more as the days have progressed why they haven't posted much lately..Thank you for proving my point,sir..That is all!

Stoops it is not but if you put Fisher there I can believe it. Let's say it is the case that Hart and the boosters are battling, what happens next? Can the boosters over rule the AD in this instance?

I don't think they are battling. Boosters would just use their $ to influence, but it's not ultimately their decision.

The guy's still green in HC department and runs his mouth like he is a NC. Franklin reminds me of a certain coach at UT a few year's back. More talk than walk.

He is going to win 9 games this year at Vander- f'n -bilt!!!

That's all I need to know to make my hire.

Do you in your lifetime remember a bigger Vandy beat down of Tennessee? He said he would remember Dooley acting like we won the superbowl last year and then this year his Vandy team beat the hell out of us. I hate him because he is their a-hole, not because he can't coach.

No offense but anyone that sticks by a single set of information in a process as fluid as this seems less credible to me than those that assess the information as it comes. Its not about me though, its about the Vols lol.

Ive taken everything you guys have said with a grain of salt just as I have those that didn't think it would get done. My point is that you were all gruden, then your weren't and then you were and then you weren't. Not good for anyone's credibility. I will not believe 100% who the coach is going to be until I see them at the podium and that has not changed since day one.

So with the agent's comments can we can officially call this over? Let's move on. And also time for some people te admit they were wrong like they said they would.
