I've been seriously thinking....I know Gruden could have made a huge difference, but if he was asking for ridiculous amounts for assistants maybe we're better off...

Let's go get a solid head coach, great staff and save on blowing the bank.

Okay then you think it is scenario #1, they have been in negotiations and then the deal fell through at the last minute.

If you get that close and the deal falls through how can you believe it is the fault of anyone else besides the AD not wanting Gruden??

You assume the two things you outlined are the only options.

Why should fans care about them blowing the bank, if that equates to wins and championships? I don't give a flying FUDGE about UT's budget.

I just want the search to be over, I want to know by Tuesday (or today would be fine), but I want to know.....is anyone else with me that this life sucking epidemic known as Tennessee's coaching search needs to loosen its grip on me so I can get back to reality...

I keep going back to the part of the JG quote saying "at this time."

"We reached out to coach Gruden. Coach Gruden after visiting with his family informed us that it was not a move his family wanted to make at this time."

Both times Gruden has been asked about the UT job he hasn't definitively ruled out the possibility. On the M & M show he said he didn't want to get into it & changed the subject rather quickly. Then this comment that it's not a move his family wanted to make "at this time." Why doesn't he make it absolutely clear he will not be at UT?

yes. The Gruden thing doesn't appear to have worked out. Some are still holding out hope saying that this was the plan all along so Hart can look like a hero.

Others are saying it's all Hart's fault and are ready with their torches and pitchforks because they have to have somebody else to blame other than "king Gruden" and their own unrealistic expectations.

Who are you? Thank you for all of your wisdom. Douchers gonna douche.

Any chance the hangup with Assistants is not money per se, but more length of contract? I realize that involves money (not just salary but potential buyout issues..) but if Gruden wants long term (read three year plus) contracts for his assistants i could see that being a real sticking point...

Alright, what we've learned today is something most of us have known all along. Hyams and the like are being spoon fed information from the AD. Period. Hargis has been reporting for 30+ years. He knows what he's doing and has no connection to the UT AD.

I choose to believe the latter.

And for what it's worth, Cowherd and those guys at ESPN's sources are Hyams and his merry morons.

Exactly. Wouldn't that have come up, I don't know, anytime over the past couple of months? That would be such a relatively easy thing to discuss. Things couldn't have gotten so far without that bridge having been crossed already.

That part of the Hargis story makes no sense, and we know the stuff in the AD's leak to Hubbs/Hyams about there never having been any financial discussions isn't true either. It seems as though two factions are at war but neither is telling the truth. Who knows where this thing is headed.

This was my boom. It is now the saddest little boom in the world, but is still my boom.

Fly little boom, be free. Still hoping for Gruden.
