Official Jon Gruden Thread XIII

I agree with this in its entirety.

Only two possible scenarios and results, and both outcomes are the result of the AD effing this up.

1. the AD has been in negotiations with Gruden since the Dooley firing and the AD wouldn't budge on giving up power/assistant salaries/insert reason... and Gruden Declined. IMO, if you get this close and don't get it done, then the AD obviously effed up.

2. The AD has been sitting on its thumb for two weeks while the Grumors were spreading like wildfire throughout the fanbase and never made a comment on the search, leading the fanbase into a fever pitch over getting Gruden... and then finally contacted Gruden and was politely told no thanks. IMO, if this happened then the AD should be replaced immediately for incompetence.

If you think the AD and Dave Hart have been sitting on their thumbs, you aren't in touch with reality.

We've not been 8-4 in 5 seasons... How is that bad?

You missed my point. If Gruden goes 8-4 with this build up, it will be a let down.

That is why I said if unnamed coach X who comes with no expectations goes 8-4 it is positive and a huge improvement.

Well we can at least keep these threads going because the names that are being mentioned won't last long so we can still discuss Gruden coming in after the next experiment is fired. Gotta get started early.

I didnt even pay attention to the date on the BIG news in OU. Big FAIL on my part in being hasty. If re-upping on the series with Nebraska is big news in Norman, then my goodness that must be a boring place to be.

I'm not disputing you, but I would like to hear an example of what you're referring to please.

It was discussed on EA show that he backed out on Miami and Notre Dame at the last minute. I also remember reading about this on VolNation a while back.

Not an OG but I would definitely be pleased with Patterson, Peterson, or Stoops if we don't get Gruden. Not the immediate "wow" factor but, quality coaches that will get UT back on track.

If we end up with one of the other names being kicked around (Fisher, Strong, Smart, Jones, Davis, Fedora, Golden, etc) UT will be wondering in the desert for years to come.

It would an immediate "wow" because of the money we would spend to get them here.

Folks do not forget it would greatly benefit the AD to publicly announce that Gruden had been eliminated as a candidate IF it were true. It has not happened. As often repeated, to allow the rumors to continue, if false, only hurts the University and the program.

Well it would be like Tennessee and Alabama being in different conferences and agreeing after several years of not playing to play OOC.

They are asking $80 dollars for basketball tickets this is crap. Finally get a chance to go to a Tennesse sporting event in D.C. and they want me to shell out close to $200 dollars between two tickets and concessions.

i got them fro $12 through living social

I'm out for a while. Need a break. I'm still holding out some hope. This still could be wrangling an posturing. We'll see sooner rather than later. Keep the faith Gruenites!

And you gotta know what you want before you begin. When you get what you wanted, you can hope the deal gets sweeter, but you gotta know when to agree.

And if you are negotiating a deal that is in the public eye, you gotta consider how things "look" to others.

And you really need a "poker face" to negotiate. Maybe some posters here need to work on their "poker face". Sometimes a good bluff works wonders. :)

Sometimes having nothing can be a real cool hand

I understand that. Winning is the only thing that will return a long term profit. But the "opportunity cost" is a very real concept when comparing Gruden to others on the
short term. I'd rather pay a guy like George Quarles (193-13 (.937), 62-4 (.939) in playoffs, 9-2 (.818) in state title games) $400,000/year and "hope" for long term success then pay a guy like Larry Fedora $3M + buyout costs for that same "hope"

Please tell me we aren't going from Gruden to a $400K a year coach and justifying it with an "opportunity cost".
